FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19: 102.9

Continuing with the pre Docket 80-90 Class B/C frequencies.

What do you or did you hear on 102.9?

East Tennessee (Knoxville/Sevierville). -a translator for non-comm Americana WDVX on 89.9 (W275AD).

Dayton, OH. WDHT, now licensed to Urbana from Springfield (the tower did not move an inch while Radio One was trying to move WKSW (now WCLI) to Enon and down the dial from 101.7 to 101.5. WDHT had previous incarnations as WING-FM, WAZU and of course, WBLY-FM.

Lafayette, IN-before WNJY(present day WXXB) fired up in Delphi (with studios originally in Monticello), it was a tossup between the aforementioned Dayton area station, and WSOY-FM

Yakima WA
Bleedover from KYKV-103.1 Selah, at least on radios that aren't extremely sensitive. Radios that are sensitive and selective can pull in fade ups of KZTM Centralia WA (La Zeta, ex-KFNY Smooth Jazz) or KSJJ Bend OR (Country) throughout the day.

Ellensburg WA (I'm moving here in a little less than a month from now)
No bleedover, KZTM is heard all over the place ranging from barely there to fair. A tentative KEFA-LP Wenatchee (EWTN) also has been heard on the west side of town. Heard what sounded like EE Rel talk earlier today while driving near exit 106 on the west side of town. KSJJ has also faded up.

Eskip logs: Some, not many.
KLQV San Diego CA (Spanish AC)
KEYU Amarillo TX (Was Spanish, now KVWE 'We' Rhythmic.)
KHUT Hutchinson KS (Country)

Many needed on this frequency but 2019 Es was absolutely awful. No opening even reached 102.9 let alone above 100.3, even briefly. The most-wanted, probably KIXN Hobbs NM 'Kix 103'. I've heard 94.1/95.7 Hobbs multiple times but the 102.9 has never made a peep. Even when the Jal NM 103.7 is audible.

KMMO-FM, Marshall, MO.
A Country station that has jingles that sound like they're from the 1980's or early 1990's. (Which I like.)

Here in Bremerton, WA, 102.9 is now the recently re-formatted KZTM, "La Zeta" from Centralia (Technically broadcasting from Capitol Peak in Olympia)
 
Depending on where you are in Atlanta, you might receive WDUN out of Gainesville Ga. or W275BK translator out of Decatur.
 
In the near north Chicago area I hear hash from to locals WVAZ on 102.7 and WPNA on 103.1. However, when there's tropo WHQG from Milwaukee sometimes appears.
 
102.9 here in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago (if you can snag it) is a weak WHQG from Milwaukee. 50kw, but from a stick shorter than the other Milwaukee full-facility FMs.
 
In Reynoldsburg, Ohio, it's always WDHT. The tower is about 60 miles west of me, and it comes in pretty much anywhere around Columbus except downtown near all the manmade interference and local radio towers.
On the west side of the Columbus area, some of which is less than 40 miles from the tower, WDHT has an excellent signal.
I've known several people over the years, including yours truly, who have had it as a preset either during its WING classic rock days or the current rhythmic contemporary format.
 
Here In Montville Connecticut
I receive 102.9 WDRC "The Whale" Licensed to Hartford but tower is on West Peak Tower Farm in Meriden. Comes in strong 35 miles west of my location. Plays your standard Classic Rock.
 
In Pine Grove, CA (3,000 ft elevation in the Sierra foothills)

Mostly KBLX/Berkeley. They’re here with a scratchy signal almost 24/7. About 110 mi direct.

In some places where KBLX drops out, I do pick up a very staticky KWYL out of S. Lake Tahoe. This is a far closer transmitter to me (only about 65 mi as the crow flies), but the Sierras do a decent job of blocking the Reno/Tahoe stations around here.
 
Mason City, IA:
A very weak KZIA/Cedar Rapids, if I’m lucky, or KTFG in Sioux Rapids. Never been able to get KMNB from the Cities.

Central KS:
KHUT/Hutchinson
 
From Baldwin County, Alabama, near the Gulf of Mexico:

This is first adjacent to local 100 kW country WXBM, which used to be all live and local and highly rated until Cumulus bought it. ;)

The two most common DX catches are WMSI Jackson, MS and WVRK Columbus, GA.
 
KBLX (7.2 Kw) San Francisco The only station in the Bay for pure r&b. It has the famous "Quiet Storm" after 8 o'clock every night. I don't know what I would do without this station. While KMEL claims to play hip hop and r&b, I never hear r&b when I listen to their station.

On another note, for some reason, this station gets the worst Nielsen ratings. Do they use PPMs or diaries? Anyone know?
 
Lexington, KY:
Before the sign-on of WPBK, Crab Orchard (2.8kW @ 361' ~42 mi.) and more recently, translator W275CO (250W @ 194' ~18 mi.), WDHT, Urbana (Dayton, OH area) would boom in here every night like clockwork, similar to what WKRQ, Cincinnati still does here on a nightly basis. Impressive signals for being only Class B's!

Zachary, LA (Baton Rouge area):
Usually, a weak signal from Religious/Contemporary Christian KAJN, Crowley (Lafayette area; 95kW @ 1499' ~83 mi.). Country WMSI, Jackson, Mississippi also makes it in from time to time.

Stations don't have a PPM/diary option. San Francisco is a Nielsen PPM market.
