FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19: 102.9

On another note, for some reason, this station gets the worst Nielsen ratings. Do they use PPMs or diaries? Anyone know?

49 of the top 51 markets use PPM. The only significant market that does not have PPM and still uses the diary is Puerto Rico, a top 20 market.

San Jose is part of the San Francisco PPM market, but is also broken out as a separate one. Of course, it uses PPM too.

From the wording of your question about them "using" PPM or diaries I probably should point out that a station uses neither. Nielsen uses one system only in each market. The large markets can afford the very much more expensive PPM, and the smaller ones can not and get the diary system.

KBLX (7.2 Kw) San Francisco The only station in the Bay for pure r&b. It has the famous "Quiet Storm" after 8 o'clock every night. I don't know what I would do without this station. While KMEL claims to play hip hop and r&b, I never hear r&b when I listen to their station.

KBLX ranks in the 13th to 18th range in 25-54. In 2020, it has been moving up in 18-49, reaching 11th or 12th in the last two months.

KBLX has an issue that it does not have a great signal in the San Jose area nor does it do well in the northern part of the Nielsen market, going up towards Santa Rosa. So they have a disadvantage in that area over some of the market FMs .
