FM FREQUENCY OF THE WEEK: 105.1

We continue covering the traditional (pre 80-90) Class B/C FM frequencies and make the move to the 105s.

What do you or did you hear on 105.1?

East Tennessee: Usually a weak signal from WCLC, Jamestown TN. On occasion, a snippet of WUBE, Cincinnati may come through. During a rare good tropo opening this summer, I caught WOXF, Oxford, MS.

Retro/other: Dayton, Ohio, WUBE, Cincinnati.

Orange County, TX-KYKS, Lufkin, TX when KXXF Winnie, TX splatter can be nulled by a turn of the antenna.

In the near north Chicago suburbs it's WOJO licensed to Evanston, Il but transmitting a Regional Mexican format from downtown Chicago.

K286AW Mankato which is a translator of Minnesota Public Radio's "The Current"

Ironically we have 2 translators for the current (the other being on 95.3) due to both being so low power they need 2 to cover the whole Mankato/North Mankato area. 105.1 is 10 watts and 95.3 is 5 watts
105.1 is on the same tower as Minnesota State Mankato's campus station KMSU 89.7
95.3 is at the KEYC (CBS/FOX) station in North Mankato on a tower..but KEYC's signal is not on that tower. Its 25 miles South of Mankato in Lewisville

105.1 in Manistee, MI is a mix between the aforementioned WGFM Cheboygan, MI (now with a mainstream rock format) and WSBW Ephraim, WI (with classic country)

Where did you hear WGFM 105.1 Cheboygan, great oldies? Near Knoxville? It sounds like tropo, but at 700 miles over land? Doesn't seem to fade like Sporadic E.

I know the former owner (twice) and engineer and DJ who put this format on the air.

I'll send him the links. The voice is a staff DJ, not sure who it is.

The voice on the ID is Greg Fletcher I think.

Lexington, KY:

A rather weak signal from a *barely* semi-local/rimshot WRNZ, Lancaster-Danville. Signal improves in the southern suburbs. North of town, however, it is usually a fight between WRNZ and WUBE, Cincinnati.

Usually splatter from local 105.3 WDAS(iHeart R&B station). Tropo brings WWPR from NYC(Power 105, also iHeart),
WAVA from Arlington VA(Washington DC) and WIOV from Ephrata PA(between Reading and Lancaster).

Far northwestern "Chicagoland": It's WOJO with a fair-good signal from their downtown Chicago stick.

A very weak K286CA East Wenatchee (translator of KKRV Country 104.7). In certain spots, KRSK Molalla OR will make it in with their Hot AC format.
Eskip is limited on this channel to one-time logs of KPLD Kanab UT (Hot AC) and KXKL Denver CO (Classic Hits).
