Up one more as we check out the traditional U.S. Class B/C FM Frequencies. Let's do 105.9 this week.
East Tennessee: Before translator W290DJ arrived to relay WGAP, Maryville (Mur-val) TN, WTMT "The Mountain" Weaverville (Asheville) was most likely to make an appearance.
Retro/other: Present day still, in trips to Marion, NC to see family members, one loses WTMT not far from Asheville for a few minutes on I-40 going up one mountain and W290CW, relaying oldies WAIZ (which serves as a tribute station to the classic WAYS), comes in and takes over. On the other side, WTMT is back.
Dayton, Ohio: I'll most remember this station as WPFB-FM, The Rebel, but now it's WNKN, the call letters it picked up under Northern Kentucy Uni ersity's ownership. Now it's back to classic country under a different owner. I've picked up this signal regularly as far as Fort Wayne.
Retro clip of the week from Bob Hawkins: Not really DX from where these recordings were made, but let's hear some corn-pone local radio from 1977 on WPBF (as this station was known at the time). http://46124.info/FM/Ohio/OH Middletown 105.9 1977 WPBF.mp3
