FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19-20: 88.5

Off we go to the next frequency on the dial, in the U.S. Non-commercial FM band.

What do you/did you/have you received on 88.5?

East Tennessee: 88.5 is pretty clear, with signals drifting in from WEKF, Corbin KY; WMQB, Murphy NC, WSDC Sneedville, TN or WTTU, Cookeville TN.


Retro/other: Dayton, OH: WMUB, Oxford, Ohio.

In the near north Chicago suburbs 88.5 is usually a battle between WGBK from the Glenbrook high schools or WHPK from the University of Chicago. Most often WGBK wins the battle.
 
Meriden, CT:

WFCR, Amherst, MA -- Owned by the University of Massachusetts and receiving significant funding from four other area schools (Smith, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Amherst), with a public radio variety format of drive-time news/discussion, midday and overnight classical, evening jazz, and more classical and an array of specialty programming weekends.
 
In Bellingham, WA, usually CBU-FM-1 Abbotsford, BC. Sometimes KNKX Tacoma or CIBH, Parksville and splatter from a KNKX Bellingham translator on 88.7.
 
Before I go into mine, Bongwater...I've never heard CIBH anywhere on the westside. KNKX's signal is just too strong, even with multipath. That includes places like Burlington, Oak Harbor and Port Townsend. But I've never been into Whatcom County (yeah, hard to believe with all the time I lived over there!) so I might be missing out. Same with the 99.9 and 106.9 up in BC for similar reasons. Yet when I was on one of the Edmonds or Whidbey beaches, Nanaimo 102.3 was nearly always there.

Here in Ellensburg it's K203EN, a K-LOVE translator that is just about unnullable. Transmits from Manastash Ridge, just like the 89.9 KLWS and 94.3 KATS translators, along with TV translators from Yakima.
Back down in Yakima it was KYVT, the NWPB News station. They had a preset in my car and I usually only listened to them for the HILARIOUS Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me on Saturdays. Funniest program on NPR by far. Especially when Paula Poundstone shows up, like last week.

Also heard from Yakima County, at 5000+ ft above Rimrock...
KLRF Milton-Freewater OR (Religion)
KWRX Redmond OR (Classical)
KPLU Tacoma (NPR)

The first one, KLRF, can be heard mixing with the Yakima station around Granger or so, and will completely take over a little W of Grandview.
 
Lexington, KY:
Weak signal from Christian AC WJIE, Okolona (Louisville area).

Zachary, LA:
Local Religious (SonLife network affiliate) WJFM, Baton Rouge.
 
Usually if I get to DFW Airport (or mid cities area) between Dallas/Ft Worth, KEOM Mesquite Schools Radio comes in. I'm north of Ft Worth and it's a REAL tough catch with adjacent 88.7 next door.

KEOM's broad cast area covers parts of Dallas, Kaufman, Rockwall, Collin, Hunt, Ellis, and Tarrant counties..61,000 watts.
 

KQED 110 Kw I believe this is the strongest signal we have in the Bay Area. NPR affiliate; comes in beautifully and always ranked #1 in our market except for in December when KOIT goes 24/7 Christmas music
