FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19-20: 88.9

Retro-rocking through the U.S. non-comm band, let's have a look at 88.9.
What do yhou/did you/have you heard there?

East Tennessee: A weak signal from religious WMMW, Chattanooga, but mostly has from EMF's WOFM (Air 1) on 89.1.

Retro/other: Dayton, OH....a solid WCSU, Wilberforce, OH. Head toward Cincinnati and it butts heads with WMWX (Class X), Miamitown OH.

Retro DX clip of the week: Here's some E-Skip from Minot, ND, Prarie Public Radio, KPMR, mentioning other simulcasting stations. This from the Bob Hawkins collection.

Ellensburg WA
KCSH Ellensburg (Religion, Lifetalk Radio // KSOH-89.5 Wapato)

Yakima WA
K205FT Yakima (Religion, // KOLU Pasco)

88.9 used to be a profitable channel prior to the sign-on of K205FT, at least when I lived in Yakima. KCSH has been on far longer. Eskip logs:

KNGM Guymon OK (KJIL)
K205CW Follett TX (KJIL as well, 226 watts! Heard during an opening many years ago where I was not hearing anything from SW KS/NW OK at the time, but I was hearing NM, so it was this one...couldn't believe it.)
KNPR Las Vegas NV (NPR)
KPRD Hays KS (Christian Contemporary/Religion)
KTLW Lancaster CA (Religion - now Air 1)
KLLU Gallup NM (K-LOVE - only 600 watts)
KNMI Farmington NM (Religion - Vertical Radio)
KENM Tucumcari NM (NPR // KENW-FM)
KJIA Spirit Lake IA (Religion)
CKMW-FM Morden MB (Country)
KAWC Yuma AZ (NPR)

Also heard in mountains above 5000 feet - KSWS Chehalis WA (NWPR) and CBUX-FM1 Victoria BC (CBC Espace Musique, now Ici Musique.)

None of these I will ever hear anymore, unless KCSH is off for some reason. They were once since I've moved to Ellensburg, and all I had was a weak K205FT.

Most common in Manistee, MI is WVRN Wittenberg, WI with VCY America // 107.7 WVCY Milwaukee. Other 88.9s:
WYMS Milwaukee, WI (AAA)
WCRR Manistique, MI (K-Love)

In Atlanta, that frequency is occupied by WMSL out of Athens GA. (about 50 miles NE) and WKEU Griffin GA. (about 50 miles S).
WMSL is religious and runs SRN news. They are not on the air full time.
WKEU is oldies and runs Westwood's Great AmericaN Oldies.

AND, then there is the pirate:

Now, last time I tuned in (yesterday) they are still on the air. The format is Black Gospel and they frequently give a phone number. There is no TOH ID as they usually just continue with the preachin' and teachin'.

The location in Decatur is a church which is probably why it hasn't been raided yet. (Probably afraid of an armed confrontation with the brudders security force there. Many churches have an armed security force now.)

Stay tuned...

Lexington, KY:
Local Public Radio/NPR affiliate WEKU, Richmond (50kW @ 719' ~14mi.)

Zachary, LA:

It goes back and forth between KXPR (50 Kw), run by CSU Sacramento, which airs a classical music format and the Oakland translator for 107.3 K-Love (4.1 Kw) out of Livermore.
