FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19-20: 92.1

I started this thread covering the traditional US Class B/C FM stations. Then the (US) non-commercial band Now, the last leg of our 3 year long Triple Crown, the frequencies that were known as Class A, most 3000 watts, 300 ft and later increased to 6000 watts. Since 80-90 and some other changes, you can find higher powered stations on some of these former Class A channels. So first, what do you/did you or have you heard on 92.1?

East Tennessee: WUOT-91.9's iBoc sidebands make reception of anything on 92.1 impossible.

Retro/other: Dayton, OH area, Dayton (licensed to West Carrollton is home to long-time Urban WROU, named after original owner Ronita Hawes-Saunders, who was pressured to sell to Blue Chip, which sold to Radio One and eventually to Alpha. I worked at a 92.1, the former WERM, Wapakoneta, Ohio with studios in beautiful Moulton, OH, during its time as WAXC. When it would sign off, the most likely station was WBST, Ball State University's station in Muncie IN.

Honoroable mention is WMPO, Middleport-Pomeroy, Ohio, now WYVK but the AM retains the call letters. Never heard this station, but it became famous in the 70s when some Ohio University students created a spoof jingle package called "There Buddy" at the station's expense.

Here's the above-mentioned WERM, Wapakoneta: http://46124.info/FM/Ohio/OH Wapokeneta 92.1 1977 WERM.mp3 and later as WAXC. with its FCC announcement, polka promo and swap shop promo. http://46124.info/FM/Ohio/OH Wapokeneta 92.1 1978 WAXC.mp3

WVTY Racine, Wisconsin the most common station at my location.

92.1 at my location....and on most of my block....is yours truly! Meaning that's where I have my Whole House FM transmitter. "Whole Block" might be a better term, but I digress. Format is usually oldies or whatever else I'm in the mood for on a given day. Today it's a 1500-song playlist sprinkled with vintage PAMS series 18 WLS and KFWB jingles, Along with some others from WTIX, CHUM,and WQAM. Playing as I type this: "Beyond The Sea"/Bobby Darin"

Seriously, 92.1 with my modulator shut off is a very weak WVTY from Racine, WI. 2,700 watts from a 450 foot tower about 45 miles to my northeast. Its a Milwaukee rimshot known for frequent format changes. Currently it's country.

I would like listening to your station :)

Picayune, MS:
WZEW Fairhope, AL (Adult album alternative)
KTSR Dequincy, LA
This morning I received KORN Parkston, SD "KORN Country 92.1" via E-skip.

At my house in Northern Ft Worth, about 50/50 % of the time it's 92.1 Hank FM. 25,000 watts from well SW of Ft Worth proper. The siginal gets stronger as you head SW or W of the city however. There is another 92.1 is Farmersville (northeast of Dallas, but i'm pretty sure I would have to be towards the big airport to hear it)

Ellensburg WA

Depending on where in Ellensburg, and usually very weak on all three - KUMA-FM Pilot Rock OR (Classic Hits), CBU-FM1 Victoria BC (CBC Music) or K221BI East Wenatchee (relaying KWLN-103.3 'La Nueva').

Es logs heard
KCMT Green Valley AZ (Regional Mexican)
KZUA Holbrook AZ (Country)
CHMX Regina SK (Adult Contemporary)
CITI-FM Winnipeg MB (Rock)
KREP Belleville KS (Country)
KKCM Thermal CA (Country)
KVMX Bakersfield CA (Country, now Rhythmic CHR)

Nothing here in Columbus, Ohio with local country giant WCOL next door on 92.3.
Gr8 mentioned WAXC earlier in the thread, and when I see 92.1, that's the first station I think of. I remember driving past WAXC's old studio on 33A in Moulton when driving to or from my grandparents in St. Marys, about five miles west of Moulton. I don't know if the studio is still standing.
That was the station my cousin who's about my age listened to for Top 40 when we were growing up, but I think by that time it already was in Lima and going by 92 Zoo. Came in well in St. Marys in any case, but like most other Lima stations it goes away past the Bellefontaine ridge if you're heading toward Columbus.

Lexington, KY:
Very strong signal from local classic rock WBVX, Carlisle (32 kW @ 610' ~13 mi.)

Zachary, LA:
Very weak signal from central LA (Marksville/Bunkie/Simmesport area) classic hits KLIL, Moreauville (6 kW @ 299' ~57 mi.)

I've heard WVTY at my location, but it's not solid on most of my radios.

It's not solid at my location either. During tropo enhancement WHPD Dowagiac, Michigan can take over the frequency. Also about 10 years a go there was a low power translator (W219CD) out of Elgin, Illinois which dominated the frequency at my location, but they have been silent since 2015.

Smith County, Texas, 5 miles NW of Tyler:

Fox Sports radio KRWR Tyler "92.1 The Team" 9.8kW @ 130.3m HAAT stands alone here. I am to the east of the DFW Metroplex, same direction as "Hank" from Farmersville. I have never logged the previously mentioned KXEZ, even with KRWR off the air for maintenance. I have logged "La Invasora" KYSR Benton/Shreveport LA, but never KXEZ here.

I would like listening to your station :)

It has some of the same characteristics of a "real" radio station. Seriously dated equipment (17-year old Dell laptop contains the various playlists). Unannounced format changes happen frequently (sometimes 2-3 times a week). It's a daytimer that sometimes stays on all night when I forget to turn it off.

No stream, but actually, I believe Spotify playlists are shareable, so if you {or anyone else here) have Spotify I'd be glad to see if I can get that function up and running. One problem is that most of the lists are a mix of Spotify tracks and local files. About 2500 oldies in all. Mostly 60s-70s. Some jazz and other stuff. Problem is I don't know if the local files...which include all the jingles...are shareable.

(We now return you to your regular Frequency of the week thrread.

I'm also impressed that you have a 17 year old laptop that still works. I've never been able to keep one working nearly that long.
