FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19: 88.1

After completing the 92s and 93s on the commercial Class B/C's, let's hot a couple of non-comm frequencies. What do or did you hear on 88.1?

East TN: Knoxville/Sevierville. Usually a weak WUTC (University of Tennessee-Chattanooga's NPR station. Occasionally the K-Love station in Somerset.

Retro/other: Dayton, Ohio area: WDPR, Dayton's all classical station owns the channel. Lafayette, IN in the 90s: alternating stations including WLAB, Fort Wayne. Still don't know what station drifted in on a Sunday afternoon playing Henson Cargill's "Skip A Rope"

Es: Several UNIDs from Tennessee, but I positively IDed KNTU, Dallas.

Here's KRVS, Lafayette, LA playing Vince Gauraldi E Skipping into Indiana: http://46124.info/FM/Louisiana/LA Lafayette 88.1 1982 KRVS .mp3

88.1 is usually WHID Green Bay, WI, which airs WPR's Ideas Network.

Here is what else I have gotten:
KMLV Ralston, NE (K-Love, one of my longest tropo on NCE band)
KWOU Woodward, OK (NPR // KGOU, E-skip)
WHJL Merrill, WI (Christian Talk // WRVM)
WJIS Bradenton, FL (The Joy FM, E-skip)
WMWK Milwaukee, WI (Family Radio)
WUWF Pensacola, FL (NPR, E-skip)
WYCE Wyoming, MI (Community/variety)

Yakima, WA:
Local KYTR Union Gap (Catholic), 52 watts on Lookout Point overlooking north Yakima. If I drive about 10 miles to the south, I can null them well and get a weak KAYB Sunnyside (AFR, 250W). KAYB also comes in when KYTR is off for some reason. In the right spot, if KYTR's off, I'll also hear KCWU Ellensburg (broadcasting from Central Washington University with mainly Top 40 music). Driving east on I-82 or 24, 88.1 turns into KAYB, followed by KTCV Kennewick (The Edge), which was logged on weak tropo for the first time, early in the morning on 1/1/2018 (KYTR off, of course).
Also in my logbook is KQHR Hood River (// KQAC, Classical) and KWAO Ocean Park (Air 1 - but actually operates from Capitol Peak near Olympia). Those two took a trip up to the hills south of Rimrock. But they are still Yakima County, and about 25 miles away, thus still in the logbook.

I've heard Es here, but I have to find a good null for KYTR. Logged in the past:
KCFY Yuma AZ (Christian Contemporary)
KKJZ Long Beach CA (Jazz)

Any full-power 88.1 in Es range is wanted here. This includes KCEP Las Vegas, which has gotten away from me at least twice now. They also air support messages from local businesses that could be confused for real advertisements! KUYI Hotevilla, while logged north of Seattle in 2011 on Es, has not been heard here, and is not in the Yakima logbook. That was a cool log - Najavo music and Birthday greetings for several residents! Another wanted 88.1 is KOYA Rosebud, SD, with a format similar to KUYI - Native American chanting and a variety of music.

It might be quite difficult to get any other 88.1 next fall, as I am moving to the land of KCWU (i.e, Ellensburg). My open frequencies will change. 88.1, 88.5, 88.9, 89.9 (translator), 90.7, 91.5 (translator), 94.3, 95.3, 100.3, 102.1 (Wenatchee), 103.1 (Selah) are locals, but 104.1 and 107.3 Yakima are still strong up there. Some Yakima channels will open up for Es. 92.9, 100.9, etc. are static-filled up there and Es should go right through them. Splatter is weaker on 104.1 and 107.3, which should make 107.1, 103.9 etc. easier. I'll be moving up there in September 2019 and will likely be DXing up there for the whole 2020 summer Es season.

88.1 here in the Chicago area is known for having multiple low powered public radio stations in the metro area. Including a couple within the Chicago city limits.

at home in Nashville near Priest Lake...it's a mix of WFSK Nashville...0.7 kw @ 7' (yes...7 feet)
and WRSN Lebanon 0.185kw @ 300'. WFSK is about 14 mi west...WRSN 19 mi NE.

In the valley of the Jolly Green Giant (Le Sueur, MN)

if anything its KVSC St Cloud, MN but I'm kinda in a doughnut for that frequency. Lots of low powered stations on that frequency but too far to really come in unless weather is right
