FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19: 93.1

What do you or did you hear on 93.1

Continuing with the traditional Class B/C frequencies in the commercial band, what are you hearing compared to what you used to hear?

East Tennessee (Knoxville/Sevierville: Local WNOX, Karns (Knoxville) dominates, but occasionally WSAA, Benton, TN sneaks in during tropo events or in elevation changes.

Retro/other: Growing up in West Central Ohio (in the "triangle" among Fort Wayne, Lima and Dayton) WNAP (at the time), Indianapolis, was a frequent visitor second only to Detroit's WDRQ. Lafayette, IN area in the 80s and 90s, mostly WNAP (WEAG, WKLR, back to WNAP) but a good opening could make WXRT, Chicago, the dominant station on the frequency.

Here's an eSkip reception of commercial classical WTMI, Miami from 1988, as heard (probably) in Muncie, Indiana: http://46124.info/FM/Florida/FL Miami 93.1 1988 WTMI.mp3 .

here in the valley of the Jolly Green Giant (Le Sueur, MN) its one and one thing only

KATO Country Mankato...Minnesota 93
100kw 490 foot tower from less than 25 miles away

and other than a couple low powered translators its the only 93.1 station in the state so I've picked it up clearly over 125 miles away

Far northwestern reaches of Chicago's suburbia....

93.1 is WXRT, "Chicago's Finest Rock". Their approach....almost like that of a classical music station....has survived Diamond Broadcasting, Infinity, CBS, and now Entercom for a half-century. The station began life as WSBC-FM.

93.1 is usually a very weak WIMK Iron Mountain, MI. With WIMK being nearly 140 miles away, 93.1 is one of my best DX frequencies.

Here are my other 93.1 catches since November 2015:
CHAY Barrie, ON
KATO New Ulm, MN
KKYA Yankton, SD
KMKT Bells, TX
KQID Alexandria, LA
KQIZ Amarillo, TX
KSII El Paso, TX
KSTV Dublin, TX
KTYL Tyler, TX
W226BD Green Bay, WI
WEAS Springfield, GA
WEZW Wildwood Crest, NJ
WFEZ Miami, FL
WJBL Ladysmith, WI
WKRO Port Orange, FL
WMPA Ferrysburg, MI (closest 93.1 at 82 miles, but almost never heard due to its puny signal)
WXRT Chicago, IL

93.1 in Yakima WA is splatter from KDBL-92.9 most of the time. We don't have a 93.1 close by, so it's basically open.

Through tropo/knife-edge I've heard
CKYE Vancouver BC (South Asian)
K226AN Montesano WA (// KJET-105.7, Hot AC, heard near Rimrock)
KRYP Portland OR (Regional Mexican)

I've heard several stations via Es on this channel.
KPLV Las Vegas NV (Top 40, now KYMT 'The Mountain' and logged once since moving here)
KLJZ Yuma AZ (Top 40 - Most common here)
KHMY Pratt KS (Top 40)
CFOB Fort Frances ON (Adult Contemporary)
CHPO Portage la Prairie MB (Country)
KATO New Ulm MN (Country)
KSII El Paso TX (Hot AC)
KCBS-FM Los Angeles CA (Jack FM)
KQIZ Amarillo TX (Rhythmic Contemporary)
KRVN-FM Lexington NE (Country)
KKXX Shafter CA (Rhythmic)

And via meteor scatter
CJXX Grande Prairie MB (Country, back in 2015)

The two wanted on 93.1 are:
KMGJ Grand Junction CO (Top 40. I've heard this market multiple times but never the 93.1)
KRCS Sturgis SD (Top 40)

Central Baldwin County, Alabama:

This is a first adjacent to a full class C so it takes quite a bit of enhancement for me to hear anything.

But I have heard WBBK Blakely, GA; WACV Montgomery, AL; WFEZ Miami, FL; and XHAAA Reynosa, MX.
