FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19: 96.1

A little later than usual, but what do or did you hear on 96.1?

East Tennessee: WLNT, (W-Lint?) Loudon, TN. Can't remember anything else from here.

Retro/other: Ohio. Dayton, Cincinnati and even the town I grew up in, it's all WQLK, Richmond, IN, all the time.
Lafayette, IN in the 90s: Pretty much a tossup between Rantoul, IL (current call WQQK), WQLK and WSTO, Owensboro/Evansville.

DX clip of the week from Bob Hawkins: Top 40 in a small Michigan market, WHNN, Bay City, MI from 1974.

Yakima WA

Weak signal of KLKY Stanfield OR (Classic Rock). Occasionally mixes with KFOO Spokane (Alternative), CHKG Vancouver BC (Ethnic, mostly Chinese) or even KXXO Olympia (Soft Rock) even though it moved transmitter spots. Sadly, sometime in the near future this will be yet another AM revitalized translator. KYAK-930 got a CP granted by the FCC to build K241CV Yakima, a 180w translator of the religious AM.

Eskip is very plentiful here during the summer, like any frequency in the 95-96mhz range. Here's all the logs:
KSME Greeley CO (Top 40, Kiss FM)
KQHT Crookston MN (Classic Rock)
KWRK Window Rock AZ (Country)
KSTR Montrose CO (Classic Rock)
KBEX Dalhart TX (Regional Mexican)
CKX-FM Brandon MB (Bob FM)
KGPZ Coleraine MN (Classic Country) - now WDKE
KXXY Oklahoma City OK (Classic Country)
KLPX Tucson AZ (Classic Rock)
KICX McCook NE (Adult Contemporary)
KYDO Campo CA (Air 1)

Anything in e-skip range would do for me in 2019 (new Yakima translator permitting), with my #1 want being KINI Crookston NE. It's gotten away from me more than once, and any station operating by a Native American tribe is always fun to catch. KINI has more of a Top 40 lean, Rosebud Sioux Tribe owns it. Their sister station on 88.1, KOYA, has more of a traditional format with the powwow chants and eclectic music.

Warminster PA(Philly 'burbs):
Usually semi-local WCTO(Cat Country 96) from Easton PA(Lehigh Valey). In tropo, it would be overpowered by other 96.1 stations, including WTTH(96 the Touch) from the Jersey Shore.

In the Valley of the Jolly Green Giant (Le Sueur, MN)

If anything its a fuzzy KQPR "Power 96" Albert Lea, MN

96.1 in Charleston formerly was a local, WAVF, which had a powerful 100kw signal. They moved in 2007 to Myrtle Beach, as WAVF went to 101.7, while WKZQ took over on 96.1, moving from 101.7.

Now, 96.1 is a bunch of hash from the 95.9 local HD signal. I’ve heard Jacksonville maybe one time here.

96.1 is my best E-skip and tropo frequency (20 total!) as there are no full-power stations within 100 miles of Manistee.

I have received the following:
CBCT Charlottetown, PEI (CBC Radio One; E-skip)
CBF-FM-11 Asbestos, QC (ici Premiere; E-skip)
KCTX Childress, TX (Country; E-skip)
KISO Omaha, NE (CHR)
KIXX Watertown, SD (Hot AC)
KKTX Kilgore, TX (Classic Rock; E-skip)
KMXG Clinton, IA (Adult Contemporary)
KQHT Crookston, MN (Classic Hits)
KXXM San Antonio, TX (CHR; E-skip)
KYKZ Lake Charles, LA (Country; E-skip)
W241AG Sheboygan, WI (Hot AC // 104.5 WXER)
WBBB Raleigh, NC (Adult Hits; E-skip)
WDKE Coleraine, MN (Classic Country)
WEJZ Jacksonville, FL (Adult Contemporary; E-skip)
WHNN Bay City, MI (Adult Contemporary)
WJMC Rice Lake, WI (Country)
WLKG Lake Geneva, WI (Hot AC)
WMAX Holland, MI (Sports)
WTCX Ripon, WI (Rock) - I had somehow forgotten this in my log!
WXYM Tomah, WI (Hot AC)

The most common are WMAX, WHNN, and W241AG in that order.

It would be KSQQ, a 4.7 Kw station out of Morgan Hill (San Jose) that plays Portuguese music, but the Sunol Grade blocks the signal. So, I get 50 Kw KYMX out of Sacramento. It sucks, because I'm Portuguese and have to use my phone to stream the site.

Central KS:
No immediate locals. Other than an occasional blip from KANS/Emporia, I haven’t logged anything else.

Mason City, IA:
Fair signal from KQPR/Albert Lea.
