FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19: 96.5

Up the dial once again on the traditional Class B/C frequencies. What do you or did you get on 96.5?

East Tennessee: Fringe reception of WDOD, "Hits 96", Chattanooga.

Retro/other: Dayton, Ohio area. WFTK and all of its predecessors, Lebanon, IN (formerly Hamilton, OH but I understand the stick is in the same place-it was a COL change to facilitate 97.3's move from Lebanon to Fort Thomas KY).

Lafayette, IN area: Local WAZY all the time, but I did catch them off a couple of times and the aforementioned Hamilton, OH station made it in.

DX recording of the week: A hot day in Chattanooga for this recording of then-Country WDOD-FM. http://46124.info/FM/Tennessee/TN Chattanooga 96.5 1981 WDOD.mp3. Visit the whole site at http://46124.info/FM/

Far northwest suburbs of Chicago.... Sometimes WKLH from Milwaukee....which, for whatever reason, is not one of the better Milwaukee signals around here.

One of the best FM channels I have here for DX.

Normally, 96.5s fade in and out all day - KJAQ Seattle (Jack FM), KOZE Lewiston ID (Rock) and/or K243CK Pendleton OR (250w translator // KUMA-1290 News Talk). I used to get KWLZ-FM Warm Springs OR in and out all day (// KBNW News Talk), but they moved to West Linn OR, changed calls and frequency to KWEE-96.3 and I have never heard them here. The new 'Jive Radio' KJIV in Madras, only 1000 watts, has also not been caught here.

Tons and tons of Eskip and meteor scatter heard over the years:
KPSL Bakersfield CA (Regional Mexican - meteors)
KOIT San Francisco CA (Adult Contemporary - meteors)
KRGI Grand Island NE (Country)
KSOM Audubon IA (Country)
KBKZ Raton NM (Country)
KKNM Bovina TX (Classic Country)
KLMA Hobbs NM (Regional Mexican)
KSLV Del Norte CO (Adult Contemporary)
KECO Elk City OK (Country)
CJPG Portage la Prairie MB (Adult Contemporary)
KWWK Rochester MN (Country)
KYXY San Diego CA (Hot AC)
KRAV Tulsa OK (Hot AC)
KQSW Rock Springs WY (Country)
KJJK-FM Fergus Falls MN (Country)
KBYZ Bismarck ND (Classic Rock)
KNWC Sioux Falls SD (Christian Contemporary)
KRFM Show Low AZ (Hot AC - now on 98.5)
KDAP Douglas AZ (Country)
XHITA Sonoyta SON (Grupera)

Not much needed anymore on 96.5! However, KXPK Evergreen CO (Regional Mexican) has been missing every time I have Es to Colorado. And KIKO-FM Claypool AZ, now on 96.5 ex-97.3, is also wanted (Oldies).

In the valley of the Jolly Green Giant (Le Sueur, MN)

most of the time nothing...every now and then if I'm driving just south of Le Sueur (where its open farm fields) KWWK 96.5 Rochester, MN sneaks in faintly.

96.5 here is a good frequency. Usually it is a weak WJCL Savannah (country), but during any tropo it can be either Orlando’s WDBO-FM (news/talk) or WFLB from Fayetteville (classic rock).

Most of the time, 96.5 is a weak WKLH Milwaukee, WI with a classic rock format.

Other catches include:
KECO Elk City, OK (Country; E-skip)
KHMX Houston, TX (Hot AC; E-skip)
KKSY Cedar Rapids, IA (Country)
KNWC Sioux Falls, SD (Contemporary Christian)
KPEL Breaux Bridge, LA (News/Talk; E-skip)
KVKI Shreveport, LA (AC; E-skip)
KWWK Rochester, MN (Country)
KXPK Evergreen, CO (Regional Mexican; E-skip)
WDBO Orlando, FL (News/Talk; E-skip)
WHOH Rhinelander, WI (was Sports; now AC)
WKLK Cloquet, MN (Classic Rock)
WPOW Miami, FL (Latin-leaning CHR; E-skip)
WQHH DeWitt, MI (Urban)
