FM Frequency of the Week - 87.7 MHz

Restarting the 87.7 frequency thread since the original one disappeared when the site rolled back the servers...
What do you all get on 87.7 MHz? (Whether a Franken FM station on 87.75 or a station actually broadcasting on 87.70 MHz)

Here in Vermilion, OH it is all WLFM-LP/Cleveland with an alternative format.

Nothing in 2013. Used to receive a weak signal of CHEK-TV Victoria (IND, and earlier E! Canada, and CH). Also received my only U.S. E-skip TV station ever, KRMA-6 Denver on 7/1/2009 with nightlight and DTV info, CBWT-6 Winnipeg on 6/18/10, and XETV-6 on 7/5/10 and relogged a few other times. (I think it is off now, the others are all off as well.)

Nothing now in Manistee. Used to get the occasional WITI with WCML appearing rarely. I think WLUC and WLNS may have made it here once or twice. Last summer I received WLFM from Cleveland on the east side of Grand Rapids.

Yes, I know about "Franken FM's...

But the band officially starts at 88.1. So the answer to this question from most areas
will be nothing, unless you have a Franken FM, or a pirate on air.

Did XETV go digital only already?

In Vallejo

Some parts I get a very weak KBKF-LP from San Jose, CA
XETV went digital-only on May 28, one of the first Mexicans to shut off their analog signal.

If they're all digital, then what's the Spanish on 87.75 on my PL-398mp just north of Rancho San Diego?

On May 28, 2013 XETV and all other Tijuana TV stations permanently ceased analog transmissions, sixty years and one month after it first signed on the air. Cofetel, Mexico's Federal Telecommunications Commission, chose Tijuana as the first city for digital switchover as a pilot program for the rest of the nation. Unlike the U.S. digital switchover, which took place nationwide on June 12, 2009, Mexico is rolling out the switchover in stages by geographic area, with a planned completion by December 31, 2015. The original Tijuana switchover date of April 16, 2013 was delayed by Cofetel because the local population had not yet attained the required 90% readiness for free over-the-air digital service to trigger the transition

You must of heard a LP Station as a FM Station (I don't think the FCC is granting Analog on Ch.6) or a Pirate Poped up

I can also receive WLFM-LP, which advertises as 87.7 FM, even though it clearly has a license for channel 6 and is required to have video. A few years ago, I remember receiving both WSYX-TV and CIII-TV from Paris Ontario. The Kaito KA1103 really has great sensitivity on this frequency.

It's KSFV-CA from San Fernando Valley, CA

I used to get CIII (Global) out of Bancroft ON (used to be fun listening to the The Simpsons on occasion, while driving around the region :D), before the switch. I now receive CJOH (CTV Ottawa) out of Desoronto ON, though how long before they finally tick over, is not known.

And oh yes, if you drive through my neighbourhood, you'll get everything from Relax FM (Moscow) to BBC Radio 4 (UK), Kol HaMusica (Israel) to ABC Classic FM (Australia)...;)

Memphis has WPGF-LP, which simulcasts WHBQ AM Sports 56. I can usually get it when I'm within 25 or 30 miles of the Memphis area, but there are times I can get it into the Jackson, TN area where I live, which is probably 50 miles straight line from the tower on the far East side of Memphis, if I don't have my MP3 transmitter plugged on that frequency.

In Gary, IN, I get WKQX-LP Chicago, & it operates as a franken FM station. It has the alternative rock format on it, but not sure how much longer, since the company that's running it via LMA, may get put up for sale. If the entire company is sold (Merlin Media), Venture Technologies might end up either having to find a new format for the station, or convert ch. 6 to digital, & run it as a TV station. Ironically, this station used to have the WLFM-LP call letters prior to the current format, & had smooth jazz on it.

Far northwest suburbs of Chicago.....WKQX-LP. Signal is good....seemingly better than it's supposed to be where I am (44 miles from the stick).

Back in the days of Analog TV, it was audio from WITI-TV Milwaukee. 65 miles and a fair-to-good signal.

Believe it or not, I used to get WITI's audio all the way in Gary, IN, until channel 6 signed on in Chicago in 2008 or early 2009. So the audio went out rather far for WITI. Once 2015 rolls around, we'll see the end of analog audio on the radio. Already, some newer radios aren't being made to go below 88.1.

Has XETV's analog in fact gone off? It (and the other analogs in Tijuana & Tecate) were supposed to go off on the 28th but I've heard DXer reports that it didn't happen?

I've heard Memphis' WPGF-LP here in the Nashville area on two occasions via tropo. We had an analog LPTV-6 about 50 miles east of here which could be heard occasionally but I'm pretty sure it's off. (in favor of DTV-7) Before the digital transition, WPSD-TV's audio from Paducah could usually be heard on a car radio down here. Used to listen to Jay Leno's monologue on my way home from work.

Heard some Spanish-language religion during a Florida opening last year, presumably that channel 6 "FrankenFM" in Miami.

We have an occasional pirate on 87.7 about 20 miles north of here in Clarksville. Probably somewhere around 10-30 watts. There's also an occasional one on 87.9 carrying the house PA at a race track about 15 miles southeast of here.

Yes, WKQX-LP's signal is pretty darned good -- audible up in Milwaukee on a car radio. I don't know as a fact how much aural power they're running but by my reading of the rules, 3kw would be legal. In which case they're only 3dB below the major Chicago FMs - and that's about how they sound to me on the car radio. WITI is reportedly running their audio on the HD3 subchannel of some Milwaukee FM station, in a (pretty much useless) attempt to retrieve the audio-only audience they lost when they went digital.

I still have audio from semi-local CJOH-6 from Deseronto, ON. When tropo was strong, I could sometimes null out CJOH-6 and pull in CIII-6 from Ottawa before they went digital.

During an ES opening towards Florida a few years ago I got a station playing Spanish music on 87.7 on my car radio while driving home from work. I also remember getting another station in 2009 that was playing audio from the DTV nightlight.
