FM Frequency of the Week - 88.1 MHz

What can you get on 88.1 FM?

Here in Vermilion, OH it is a mix of 2 stations, WZIP/Akron, OH and WHRQ/Sandusky, OH. When tropo is up, you can add in WSMF/Monroe, MI to the mix.

In Bellevue, WA I get a fair signal of KWAO Ocean Park, WA with Christian Contemporary music (Air 1).

I also got KUYI Hotevilla, AZ one time during an E-skip opening. 7/20/11.

In Pacific Beach, WA I mainly had the old KLOP mixing with KQOC Gleneden Beach, OR (KQAC), but I'm guessing KWAO destroys it now.

In Portland, OR I also had KWAO and KQOC.

In Yakima, WA I get a religious xlator (forget the calls).

Here in Warminster PA(Philly 'burbs), it's mostly either one of two former NJN Radio stations:
WNJT from Trenton(now with WNYC) and WNJS from Berlin(now with WHYY).

Baldwin Co., Alabama is mostly within the 60 dBu of WUWF, the pubcaster for West Florida University in Pensacola. I'm 41.5 miles from the TX site and can snag the HD about 50% of the time.

During tropo I've also heard low power Catholic religious WOLM from D'Iberville and the MPB affiliate for Meridian in Mississippi.

Harvest (Huntsville), AL - WAY-FM (WAYH), contemp. Christian music 24/7. Their antenna is on a mountain less than a mile from my house.

From southern suburbs of Pittsburgh it waivers between WRJW, Monroeville, PA
(a translator for the He's Alive Christian Network) and WVBC from Bethany College in
Bethany, WV.

Rumors are that Bethany College is selling the station to some group that wants to
program it with jazz. As it is this station sounds absolutely horrible. An old Remco
Caravelle probably broadcasts with better sound fidelity.

Near Monte Sano State Park? That's an absolutely beautiful place!

I'm at the (west) shore of Priest Lake in Nashville...and get a mix of WFSK Nashville...about 10 miles NW (700watts)
and WRSN Lebanon, TN...about 24 miles NE (185 watts). Surprised that these two are so close (about 31 miles),
even with the low tx power and low antenna height. WFSK is dominant here...but in the car, and unlistenable mix.

Crystal Lake, IL - 40 miles NW of Chicago

WNTH Winnetka, IL
WAES Lincolnshire, IL
WVPE Elkhart, IN
WMWK Milwaukee
KVOD Lakewood, CO Sporadic E-skip and through the rain no less! (2008)
WETN Wheaton, IL
WLTL La Grange, IL
WWTG Carpentersville, IL

I can beat that: in Birmingham there were two stations on 91.1 that were just 14.5 miles apart. One ran 100 watts, the other 125. The only thing keeping them from making a total mess of things was the higher powered one was directional away from the lower powered one, and the lower powered one was down in a deep valley and was terrain blocked from being line of sight to the other.

Today, the 100 watt station has actually boosted power to over 200 watts from a nearby mountaintop, and they also are directional away from the other station, but it causes quite a bit of unlistenable mixing over a large part of the city. Dunno how the FCC ever allowed stuff like this to happen.
