FM Frequency of the Week - 91.1 MHz

What can you get on 91.1 FM?

Here in Vermilion, OH it is WRUW/Cleveland from Case Western University which plays a variety of different kinds of music

On a selective radio, or adjusting a telescoping antenna, or with an outside antenna, WFUM-FM 91.1 Flint. It duplicates WUOM 91.7 Ann Arbor. They used to have a usable studio to originate programming at the Mott Memorial Building in Flint. Since Central Michigan University took over WFUM-TV and it is now WCMZ-TV, I'm not sure where the local studio is located. WRCJ 90.9 Detroit used to only be on 12 hours a day, so it was easier much of the time. WFUM-FM is directional, and most of my travels are close to the null to protect WRCJ. WRCJ is also directional. Before WOLW 91.1 came on the air in Cadillac, you could regularly hear WFUM-FM all the way up in the Straits Area.

From Foley, AL (halfway between Mobile and Pensacola) it's first adjacent to local pubcaster WHIL on 91.3. They don't run any HD, so during good conditions I'm occasionally able to hear Christian Contemporary "Positive Hits" WPSM from Fort Walton Beach.

Not much of a catch, but it's a difficult frequency here, not to mention every station for 200 miles is also Christian-formatted, so even if I did hear something different, it would be very difficult to ID.

From Coldwater, MI

Usually WGCS- Goshen, IN (World music/AAA- The Globe) dominates in the car.

WPCJ- Pittsford, MI (Religious) sniffs in from time to time with their 250 watt signal. Not very far away from here, but hills/terrain kill their already weak signal around here.

During enhancement I can get WFUM- Flint, MI (Public Radio - Michigan Radio)

On my home antenna set-up, I can sometimes get
WOLW- Cadillac, MI- Cont. Christian (The Promise FM)
WCYT- Lafayette Township, IN- Alternative
WRUW- Cleveland, OH- College (Case Western University)
WOSB- Marion, OH- Public Radio (Ohio State University)
WGTD- Kenosha, WI- Public Radio

It's all WLRN (91.3) I-Block here, except WKES Lakeland on decent Tropo nights, with the hiss in the back.

My favorite station anywhere, WFMU from East Orange, NJ, is on 91.1. They are a first-rate freeform station -- they call themselves "the freeform station of the nation" with good reason. If you're at all inclined to check them out, I highly recommend it. They stream and even have their own really good app. They are at wfmu.org. Happy listening!

91.1 in Monroe, WA belongs to KROH Pt. Townsend, WA (Religious). It used to be K216EN Mt. Vernon [KPLU] before the flip to 105.5.
Also logged via E-skip: KLDV Morrison, CO; KVKL Las Vegas, NV; XETRA 91X Tijuana, BCN.

91.1 in Pacific Beach, WA usually has static, but I pulled KWAX Eugene, OR [Classical] out of the static one time at 223 miles.

91.1 in Yakima, WA belongs to KYPL Yakima, Positive Life Radio (Christian Contemporary).

91.1 in Portland, OR has KTJC Kelso, WA (CSN Truth FM).
