FM Frequency of The Week: 93.5

What have you picked up on 93.5?

Bothell: nothing. Tentative KLMR Lamar, CO on big 6/29/10 Es.

Yakima April 2010: KWDQ Condon, OR (Hot AC) and an unid Spanish, prob a pirate.

Vancouver/PDX: Sometimes a little bit of sideband spill-over from KRYP (93.1) and KPDQ (93.9) if I am using a radio with a wide enough tuner, otherwise just static.

Pendleton: Upper sideband of KRKL (93.3), sometimes lower sideband of KGSG (93.7) if the conditions are good.

93.5 here in south FL used to be one of the most interesting FM frequencies.

In the early-mid 70s on a cheap radio, the sound of TV channel 10 Miami came in on it. (Anyone wanna speculate why this happened?)

I think my first Cuban Tropo catch (from home, anyway) on FM was in mid 1989 or so, CMHW Santa Clara. Funny thing....I am sure they are still around, but I have not heard it from home in 14 years!

XHPP in Mexico, Super 93 Maracaibo Venezuela, Radio Monumental San Jose Costa Rica, and a CBC Canadian (likely London ON) are my farthest 93.5's I suppose....or at least the most interesting ones.

Usually nothing here in northern VA with no tropo; otherwise WZBH in DE 107 miles or WBBC Blackstone, VA 116 miles away "Bobcat Country".
In Fredericksburg, VA I heard WBBC before WFLS 93.3 turned on its IBOC with a Pioneer car stereo with the Supertuner IIID, during a tropo event. Right now over there, it's loud IBOC hiss on 93.5. WBBC is 17.5 KW and 394 ft according to Radio-Locator.

CKXC Kingston ON, is the semi-local, while WOKR Remsen NY pays a visit, from time to time, along with Montreal's Radio 2 outlet CBM.

93.5 and 92.7 in Indian and Illinois were interesting because several stations swapped dial spots to open up 104.9 for Muncie (Hartford City had the allocation).

Short bursts due to mobile. Lafayette IN WKHY (formerly WXUS on 92.7). Dayton Ohio Hartford City IN or occasional Toledo market.(WRQN). In East Tenn a Spanish rimshot

Another decent DX frequency here in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Regulars are WZCR - Hudson, NY "Cruisin' 93.5" and WVIP-93.5 New Rochelle, NY, which just recently moved it's transmitter location into New York City. Not much difference in signal here, maybe a little bit weaker.

DX logged since 2003:

WUSD - Hartford, AL "Kickin Country 93.5"
KLEZ - Bismarck, AR "Easy 93"
WZBH - Georgetown, DE "The Beach"
WEBZ/WPBH - Port St. Joe, FL (WEBZ - "The Beat", WPBH - Rock 93.5)
KQCS - Bettendorf, IA "Star 93.5"
KKDT - Burdett, KN "Dave 93.5"
KWME - Wellington, KS "Oldies 93.5"
CJEL - Winkler, MN "The Eagle"
WFQR - Harwich Port, MA "Frank FM"
KITN - Worthington, MN "The Breeze"
WHJT - Clinton, MS "Star 93.5"
KYMK - Osage Beach, MO "Mike FM"
KKOT - Columbus, NE "The Hawk"
WVBR - Ithaca, NY
WOKR - Remsen, NY "The River"
CBCL - London, ON CBC Radio One
WSBG - Stroudsburg, PA "Lite 93.5"
WKWX - Savannah, TN
KBHT - Crockett, TX most-distant on 93.5 at 1408 miles
WOZZ - New London, WI - via Meteor Scatter.

That frequency is blocked by 93.7 KSKS Fresno a Grandfathered station with 68K Watts ERP at 4700 feet sea level in the Sierra-Nevada Mountains 22 miles away.

I have picked up on 93.5 (KLXK) in Breckinridge, TX with 93.7 (KNOR) bleeding over thanks to it's 15 mile distance.
