FM Frequency of the week: 94.5

Here outside of Fort Walton Beach, FL it's a tie,
Panama City (WFLA-FM)
or
NPR - Tallahassee (florida state university) (some odd call sign)
it's a 10W translator from the panama city source.

-Rob

Here in Warminster, PA(Philly burb), 94.5 is occupied by a local station, WPST from Trenton, NJ. I listen to
that station all the time.

Most common for 94.5 here in Duluth, MN is KSTP, St. Paul, MN (124 mi), "KS 95".

After that, it's probably WRJO, Eagle River, WI (146 mi).

Very rarely I hear WELY, Ely, MN (81 mi) to the north of here.

Via Es, I've logged four stations: WYSF Birmingham, WPST Trenton, WMCS Hatteras, and WCFB Daytona Beach.

In Southwest Ohio it's home to WDKF "Channel 94-5" Englewood, OH. Just the same, particularly south and east of Dayton, it regularly gets wiped out by Lexington.

Here in Ft Walton Beach, FL, near Rob, a new NPR translator signed on last July. Rob they are W233BH 170 watts with the antenna on the tower at 31 meters with all the others on Hollywood Blvd. 89.1 WFSW Panama City is the station they rebroadcast. 89.1 is 100kw and 43 miles away, actually a better signal than the translator and I'm only 3 miles from it. I don't know who engineered this but shhhhhh. Don't tell anyone.
This reception of KTBZ Houston, TX via E skip from only 534 miles completely clobbering the local translator is my favorite catch from this channel. http://members.aol.com/randyinfla/mp3/94-5_KTBZ_Jul29_07.mp3

Here in Ottawa, nothing but bleedover from 5 other stations due to being so close to the downtown. My most common catch before moving here was KXRL in Kirksville Missouri.

Here in the Hudson Valley, New York, 94.5 is a decent DX frequency. Under normal "dead band" conditions, "K-Love" WYKV from Ravena, NY (Albany area, to the north) is regular. To the west, I get very weak regular reception of 9 watt WJFF translator W233AH Moniticello (43 miles), with adjacent interference from near-local WKXP-94.3. WPST-NJ would probably be a fringe regular if it weren't for WCZX-97.7 & WPFK-96.1 mixing product on 94.5 with antenna in that direction. WPKF is closest/strongest local signal with 4400 watts at 3 miles.

During tropo, WPST is often very strong. Once is while WJMN-Boston, WYYY-Syracuse, WDAC-PA are heard. WNED-Buffalo, heard once last summer.

I've logged a number of E-skip stations on 94.5, most-distant being KPLO-Reliance, SD (1306 miles), KLIQ-Hastings, NE (1296 miles), and KSMB-Lafayette, LA (1288 miles).

A total of 16 stations have been logged on 94.5 here in the past five years.

Here in Southington, CT in my driveway with my car radio I get a very weak signal from the very low-power WERB in Berlin, CT. It is Berlin High School's Station. Unusual station. Plays some oldies and big band/standards music. It's used as a TIS station during the BERLIN FAIR every fall providing traffic reports and parking info for the fair. A long time ago in Bristol I did DX JAMN 94.5 from Boston.

I live east of Charlotte and in several locations have picked up WYEZ Murrells Inlet, SC, on the coast.

I wish WMUU could be picked up more often because it's a great easy listening station.
