FM Frequency of the week 95.5

I recieve KLOS 95.5 from Los Angeles ,205 miles from Clovis California ,its the only Los Angeles FM station I recieve, even with 95.7 KJFX only 10 miles away with 17K ERP. KJFX's transmitter is at a 90 degree angle with the direction of KLOS,so the Adjacent interference is very light with a directional antenna,it comes in quite often on good tropo conditions.

KLOS is a monster. I have relatives in north county San Diego (Solana Beach area), and even though KLOS is well over 100 miles away, it regularly overpowers much closer KUSS 95.7 there.

Here in Rochester NY, cross-lake CJOJ Belleville ON usually owns the channel now that translator W238AB has gone away. New WFIZ Odessa NY is sometimes in as well, or WFHM Cleveland/WKQI Detroit, if the trop is up to the west.

From Coldwater, MI:

95.5 is a pretty good frequency. Despite translators recently signing on nearby, I can still get WKQI-Detroit and WNUA-Chicago on any given day. WFMS-Indianapolis and WHOK-Lancaster, OH occasionally make the trip but not as often as the others.

Translator stations W238AL from Portage, MI (35 miles) and W238BH from Orland, IN (16 miles) can be heard with the antenna pointed just so.

I've heard several stations from Texas and Montana to Florida via eskip.

Here in Poughkeepsie, NY, 95.5 has yielded a lot of good DX in the past 6 seasons, despite the fact that WPLJ-New York City puts in one of the few reliable New York City HD signals here (at 71 miles). Also, WYJB-Albany (60 miles) is a solid regular with the antenna pointed north.

On tropo, WBRU-RI (129 mi) is fairly common. Also Canadians WJOJ-Belleville, ON (248 mi) and CJLS-Yarmouth, NS (426 mi) have been logged here, as well as WPGC-MD (257mi) during a strong DC-area tropo opening this past June. Ten loggings on 95.5 via E-Skip from 6 states, the most distant being KAFX "K-Fox" from Diboll, TX at 1357mi.

Years ago, 95.5 used to be a smooth jazz/easy listening station, KXL. In the mid-90s sometime it became an 80s hits station, whose format was later picked up by KVMX on 107.5. Later on in the 90s it became that godawful hip-hop mess known as "Jammin' 95.5" (KXJM), which moved to 107.5 earlier this year. At this moment 95.5 is a sport station known as "The Game" (KXTG).

I've never been able to do any DX on 95.5 here. However, I was able to receive KXJM (when it was still on 95.5) a few times in Pendleton, OR--about 200 miles dead-east of Portland--during the summer time in years past.

(You know, I'm surprised, albeit not really astonished, that "Djfrrrrrresh" hasn't found this thread yet.......)

30 miles south of WFMS/Indianapolis, they rule the roost. When the band is up, the phase box often reveals WHOK/Lancaster,OH and WQHY/Prestonsburg,KY. WFMS is fortunate in that it doesn't have several class A's at 111 miles or so. Good channel...even with a class B local.

Bleed over from WKSS KISS 95.7 FM. Another station that used to be pretty good, but now has gone down the tubes.
If that's Meriden,CT, that's my farthest east logging. Heard it in Cincinnati in 1970 or '71. It was "KISS" before KISS was cool.

The frequency is completely wiped out by CKAV 95.7. Before they went on the air, you coulnd't hear anything there anyway. My location is under my name.

95.5 here in Washington is BAD!
Bothell, WA: slop from KJR 95.7
Union Gap, WA: NOTHING

-crainbebo

KNEV Magic 95.5 from Reno, Nevada

60,000 Watts with an antenna height of 7674 feet above sea level!

A strong signal here about 35 miles to the east.

Dayton, OH..it sits between Cox's 95.3 and 95.7 which used to simulcast. Most of the time it's WHOK, Lancaster but fairly often I can pull WFMS, Indianapolis. havedn't caught Detroit down here but often further north.
