FM Frequency of the Week - 95.9 MHz

What do you all get on 95.9 FM? Here in Vermilion, OH, despite being only about 12 miles away as the crow flies from WKFM on 96.1, I can get a weak CJWF/Windsor, ON with a country format. Occasionally CFPL/London, ON with a rock format will appear especially with tropo. One time about 4 years ago, I heard a station via E-skip calling itself '95.9 the Range' (I tried looking this station up but couldn't find it anywhere) When I got this station, it came in so strong at one point that it was actually bleeding over onto local 96.1 WKFM!

From southeast suburban Rochester NY, it used to be a fairly consistent WFLR-FM Dundee, a class A signal about 40 miles to the southeast...but WFLR-FM moved to 95.5 serving the Ithaca market as WFIZ Odessa NY and is no longer heard here very well or very often. Nowadays it's mostly CJKX Ajax from across the lake, but CFPL-FM from London pokes through now and again when trop is up.

95.9 here can be a mess at times in Schenectady, NY... often I can get both WCQL Queensbury and WBEC-FM Pittsfield during normal conditions :)

Warminster PA(just outside Philadelphia):

Usually splatter from either 95.7 Ben from Philly or 96.1 Cat Country from Easton PA.

Are you sure it was the Range, and not the Ranch? If it's the Ranch, it's KFWR Fort Worth, TX.

If they can overcome WHIO-FM splatter, (no iBOC though) its either WYNT Caledonia, Ohio or WFDM, Franklin IN depending on where the band opens. Also WKUZ Wabash IN one morning. This from Dayton OH

95.9 is one of our closest locals, WIOP 95.9, a lite AC station (very soft rock). Their transmitter is in the West Ashley area of Charleston. Before 96.1 moved to 101.7 and 95.9 began in 2009, WQZY Dublin used to be in very often.

95.9 is a good frequency to use here in south FL.

It's often a Caribbean pirate, I think, from somewhere around Ft. Lauderdale. But also there is the WSVU AM 960 translator in the Palm Beaches, and also WSJZ ESPN Radio Melbourne.

I've caught a few Central American stations on E-skip, and when I am in the Keys I sometimes faintly get Radio Ciudad del Mar in Cuba.

Once in the Keys, I got a Caribbean English station that I'll likely never be able to ID, but I think it coulda been Jamaica, offering a trip to Barbados....Some have listened to the clip but there is nothing to help. Oh well. :)

OH & I think I caught WIOP a time or two as well.

In Bothell/Bellevue, WA it's KJR splatter/IBOC.

In Pacific Beach, WA I got nothing on 95.9.

In Wapato, WA it's a very weak KZML Quincy, WA (Regional Mexican).

In Portland, OR I get a local K-LOVE translator, that's ALSO repeated on 96.3, and parent station 88.7 (KLVP)! Waste of DX frequencies...

95.9 is splatter in some parts of Lake County Indiana. In Gary, I either hear WEFM Michigan City, IN, or I hear W240BJ Crown Point, IN. W240BJ is the translator to WTMK 88.5, & licensed to either Lowell (transmitter between Demotte & Rensselaer, IN, not even putting Grade A over Lowell) or Wanatah, IN (transmitter in LaCrosse, IN), & simulcasts Shine FM WONU 89.7 Kankakee, IL (all owned by Oliviet Nazarine University).

Northern VA,
It's almost local W240BH in Gainesville, VA relaying WRVL Lynchburg, VA which delivers religious programming.
When I null it out, I get oldies WGRQ east of Fredericksburg, VA from about 45 miles away, with a class A signal.

It may have been the Ranch. It was a country station and the announcer had quite a strong southern accent. KFWR would make sense for that although it was at a weird time of year for E-skip in Feb. 2008 when I heard it.

I have a buddy who lives in Fredericksburg, VA and whenever I go there to see him, I usually listen to 'WGRQ Colonial Beach - Fredericksbuuuurg' as they say over the air. In fact I can get that station as far north as Tysons Corner on 495 before WWIN starts cutting in.
