FM Frequency of The Week: 96.7

That one is local for me KALZ Fowler (Fresno) CA 9 miles away from me in Clovis.
I have on occasions picked up KMRQ from Modesto 90 miles away.

The normal station on 96.7 here is WCTZ Port Chester, NY which is about 30 miles away.....Every so often WTSX Port Jervis, NY will kick in but rare because of the montains to the west......During tropo I have gotten WCEI Easton, MD and before the move to 96.9 WEHM would come in from eastern Long Island

From Poughkeepsie, NY....

WCTZ Port Chester, NY "The Coast" (formerly WCTZ / WKHL Stamford, CT) and WTSX Port Jervis, NY "The Fox" about equals here. WPTR Clifton Park, NY a distant third with the antenna aimed just right. WCTZ is supposed to be re-locating their tower to New York state to better cover lower Westchester County and parts of New York City. As far as I know, they are still transmitting from Stamford, CT. WTSX is supposed to be moving tower and city of license to the boondocks of Pennsylvania. Not moved yet as far as I know.

DX on 96.7:

WCEI - Easton, MD
KKCQ - Bagley, MN "Q-Country"
WHBE - East Hampton, NY (was Bloomberg Radio when I heard them)
WKJX - Elizabeth City, NC "Mix 96"
KBEL - Idabel, OK - most distant on 96.7 at 1262 miles.

There's a lot more DX to be had on this channel, so I've got to spend more time here. Unfortunately both WTSX and the local FM antenna farm (including local WRRB on 96.9) are on the same heading (240 deg) as a lot of potential DX.

Vermilion, OH:
96.7 is mainly CHYR/Leamington, ON 'Mix 96-7' with an AC format. I have also heard CHYM/Kitchener, ON with tropo from that area and WBVI/Fostoria, OH with tropo enhancement from that area.

Schenectady, NY - WDCD-FM with a Christian talk format (the sister AM, WDCD 1540 (ex-WPTR)) went off the air just a few days/weeks ago... perhaps unsurprisingly, the IBOC is gone from 96.7 as well so I could try to get WTIC-FM 96.5 this DX season (between WAJZ and WDCD-FM) :)

96.7 is a good frequency to check for skip here in Baldwin County. It's usually pretty dead. During tropo I have logged WKXN Greenville, AL (near Montgomery) several times, and on one occasion WCKK Walnut Grove, MS and KCIL Morgan City, LA. Nothing outrageous.

In most of Lake County Indiana, it's possible to get WSSR Joliet, IL. Get near the county line to Porter County, then I get WCOE LaPorte.

Every so often I hear something modulating way out in the distance on this frequency. Think it's probably sideband noise off KYCH.
