FM frequency of the week 97.1

This is a not so good frequency for dx as I got two semi local translator stations. If I am in a few certain spots I can pick up hot 97 from new york. I am located in Pennsauken, NJ

In Coeur d'Alene, ID:
97.1 KXRX Walla Walla, WA "97 Rock" heard at times (136 miles)

nearer(111 miles) KALS Kalispell, MT NOT heard (many mountains between)

Here in Warminster PA, I've heard numerous stations at 97.1.
There's the WRDV translator from Bensalem, a translator for a Christian music station
from Delaware, and WQHT(Hot 97) from New York.

Here in deep South Texas, 97.1 is nothing but splatter from local 96.9 KVMV. But with really good tropo, we can get 97.1 KTHT (Country Legends) out of Houston

Thornville, Ohio ... all WBNS-FM (97.1 The Fan) from Columbus with a crystal-clear signal. Even with the varying terrains in different directions from Columbus, it's dependable for 65-70 miles in all directions.

In Berkeley, CA

Nothing except splatter from 97.3 KLLC. If I'm in the inland areas of the SF Bay Area, I can sometimes get KTSE from Tracy, CA or even KSEQ, which is all the way in Fresno (190 miles away).

In Manassas, VA,

WASH in DC; AC format on primary channel and smooth jazz on HD-2.
When I was in near Roseburg, OR several years ago, I often picked up KYCH "Charlie" from Portland about 180 miles away with the CCRadioSW fairly often with weak signal.

From Coldwater, MI:

97.1 used to be one of my best frequencies! WLHK- Shelbyville, IN (160 miles) made it in the most often, despite WXYT- Detroit (100 miles) and WDRV- Chicago (135 miles) being closer. WBNS- Columbus, OH (170 miles) also drifted in from time to time as well as WREO- Ashtabula, OH (220 miles).

This all changed during the 4th of July weekend in 2006. A local translator signed on just one mile away from my house. They now obliterate pretty much any tropo on this frequency. To make matters worse, another translator signed on at 97.1 in Three Rivers, MI just a couple years later. So even in the rare occurance that the local translator signs off, the Three Rivers one is still there.

New York, NY:

HOT 97, all the time.

Marc, I like 93.7 in Connecticut a lot and tend to agree with you, HOT 97 isn't necessarily the gold standard for hiphop radio. Hot 93.7 is pretty good -- and even more so considering it's in a much smaller market.

I'm 23 miles south of WLHK Shelbyville,IN on 97.1 but with a little bit of tropo and my trusty Bolin Phaser & 2 yagis, Columbus,OH is not that rare here. Side note...I was in a private plane 2 miles directly above the WENS (now WLHK) antenna in the early 90's with a portable radio and Columbus Ohio at 170 miles blew WENS away.

That "Cone Of Silence" thing really works!

A scratchy signal from AC WREO/Ashtabula "Star 97.1" here.

You don't start getting WBNS-FM/Columbus "97.1 The Fan" until around Mansfield...

CIGL "Mix 97" from Belleville, Ontario, just across the lake, at least once I get out from under the intermod from local 96.5/97.9 on nearby Pinnacle Hill.

Here in Poughkeepsie, NY, New York's "Hot 97", WQHT is solid 24.7. This was my only logging on 97.1, thanks in large part to a local on 96.9, until 2 1/2 years ago when I acquired the SONY XDR F1-HD.

Since then I have logged the following:

KAMD Camden, AR "K-97"
WASH Washington, DC "Wash-FM"
WOSN Indian River Shores, FL "The Ocean"
WEZB New Orleans, LA "B-97"
KYCK Creston, MN "97 Kick - The Valley's Hit Country"
KYAL Muskogee, OK "The Sports Animal" - most distant on 97.1 at 1237 miles.

KYCH, the local bland, lifeless automated Formatless Random Blend jukebox station, which caused the death of our beloved KKSN a few years back.

Comes in unfortunately well here too, being that I'm just a few miles ENE of the transmitter.
