FM Frequency of the Week: 97.3

Melbourne FL

97.3 MHz - nothing in the local area

WFLC Miami FL Hits 97-3 All the hits (new format) - most likely to be heard during enhanced conditions
180 miles south of Melbourne...

or else

WAEV Savannah GA 97-3 Kiss FM

Tyler, TX:

Being sandwiched between KEGL and KTBB makes this a pretty tough channel to be of anything to note, here in Tyler, but there is KQHN from Shreveport (licensed to Waskom, TX) that appears this far west on occasion. It's a Cumulus Hot AC branded as "Q 97.3".

Denver, CO -Longtome AAA station KBCO, licensed to Boulder. HD-2 is the KBCO Studio C channel, featuring performances recorded at the station. HD-3 is iHeart's Pride channel.

This weekend only + retro - KHKI Des Moines. Now a country station, it's Iowa's only "superpower" FM. In my youth, it was KDMI, one of two Des Moines stations that I could receive in Centerville (the other being WHO-FM) with a continuous lineup of preaching programs. Not a very interesting FM dial in southern Iowa in those days!

East Tennessee: Local powerhouse WJXB on 97.5 precludes much of anything else, but there was once an opening to Savannah that brought in WAEV while I was in Sevier County.

Clifton, New Jersey

No nearby licensed stations, but I have been able to receive WENJ "97.3 ESPN" Millville, NJ during tropo.

From Aberfoyle ON:
Back with my new RSPDX and the 2m/70cm vertical dipole I receive a very strong CHBM Toronto ON, an 80s, 90s, and more station.

North Iowa:
A weak KHKI/Des Moines

Central Kansas:
Though it’s a blank frequency locally, KLRX/Lee’s Summit will visit fairly often (like most of the Kansas City FMs I get at my location). KKJQ/Garden City will also make a visit on occasion.

Wilmington Delaware

Good HD signal from WENJ Millville-Atlantic City NJ. It carries ESPN programming most of the day with a local Sports talk show in the late afternoon. It has play by play of Eagles, Sixers, and Flyers games along with ESPN live sporting events. The signal covers all of Eastern Delaware from N to S but it fades quickly heading NW into PA making room for WRVV in Harrisburg PA.

Nutley, NJ Hash from Hot 97.
Tropo: rarely anything. Even when there is tropo from South Jersey, it is still hard to pull in WENJ, despite Lite Rock 96.9 coming in through the HD hash, with little issues. WJFD from New Bedford, MA has made an appearance

Crystal Lake, IL,,, 97.3 is what's left of WWRW Milwaukee. Sports talk and Packers football. Originally WISN-FM.

I get KLLC mostly in the Summertimes in the Sacramento Area

But when I lived in Rocklin, I get most of the time is KNCQ Redding

I never got KOLC Carson City, NV from Rocklin or even in Carmichael

Central Kentucky:

W247CT, translator for WVLK 590, Lexington.

As with many AMs these days, they brand with the FM frequency: "97.3 FM, WVLK"

This is WVLKs second translator.

Their first was on 101.1 (W266AN) which resulted in a well publicized battle with powerhouse WSGS in Hazard, which resulted in the removal of the 101.1 translator.
I read the FCC reports that documented interference as far as Natural Bridge State Park, Red River Gorge, Campton, and Beattyville.
This is understandable as that translator was high up on the WKYT TV tower in Eastern Fayette county. (Not sure where the current 97.3 translator is located)

I'm very familiar with that area and can assure you WSGS is quite popular there.

97.3 in Charleston, SC is a 75/25 mix of either WAEV Savannah (Kiss FM, top 40) or WMNX Wilmington (Coast, urban). Both have very large signals and it doesn’t take much for either to blast in here. More often WAEV. A couple of times I have heard the Miami signal on that frequency, WFLC, but not in years.

WENJ has a blaster of a signal. It used to be New Jersey 101.5’s southern simulcast for a long time. When that station was most popular (late 90s), it could be heard from northeast MD through most of south Jersey.

Gaffney, SC / Upstate SC -
Weak Signal from WKBC - North Wilkesboro NC -
(Very Strong station heard up into
Southern & Southwest Virginia)

Technically the same license. W247CT is also on the same tower that W266AN was on
