FM Frequency of the Week - 97.9 MHz

What do you all get on 97.9 FM?
Here in Vermilion, OH it is WJLB/Detroit (Hip-Hop) which can vary from weak to strong depending on conditions. Also occasionally I will hear bits of WNCI/Columbus, OH (Top-40). A rare tropo visitor is WXTA/Edinboro, PA (Near Erie, PA - a country station)

Schenectady, NY - normally, a weak WRIP Windham... however, during tropo I've gotten WSKS/Whitesboro and WPKX-FM Enfield, CT on the frequency...

Bothell/Bellevue, WA: IBOC from KING 98.1

Yakima, WA: KYYR-LP Yakima, WA (The Bridge, Christian rock) and KZTB Milton-Freewater, OR (SS music).

Portland, OR: KNRQ Eugene, OR (Rock, 97.9 NRQ)

-crainbebo, post 1900!

Manassas, VA,

Baltimore's WIYY also known as 98 Rock. 98 Rock has HD2, HD3 and HD4, if that is true, but they are too far away from me. I sometimes hear them, including WBAL 1090 news/talk simulcast.

I once heard WNCI Columbus, OH here in VA, with a very weak signal that lasted for a few seconds, was able to hear its calls. Last year, I heard Dallas-Fort Worth's, hip-hop/R&B 97.9 via e-skip.

Here in Warminster PA, it's usually splatter from 98.1 WOGL, though I have heard
WSKQ from NYC or a station from the Poconos(forget calls) on occasions.

High Bridge NJ- All WSKQ spanish from NYC. But when tropo is up Baltimore MD easily comes in. Where I am here Hazleton PA is not there, their directional signal works very well not interferring with SKQ. But going west not that far and Hazleton and it's hard rock comes in.

From Watertown, NY really no local on this channel but during the summer I hear WPXY from Rochester the most. I also get CJLL from Ottawa and WSKS from Whitesboro. During decent tropo this normally empty frequency can sound quite full of stations. But that still doesn't stop me from logging WRMF out of Palm Beach, FL every time there is ES that way.

Here near downtown, St. Petersburg,FL, 97.9 is a very solid and strong WXTB, ClearChannel rocker, antenna height of 1503 feet and 100,000 watts about 30 miles n.n.w. of my location.

Have never noticed any interference even with strong tropo or e-skip condtions.

drt,
st. petersburg,fl

Dayton, Ohio area: Mostly WNCI Columbus but often mixed with or overtaken by WGNR, Anderson, IN which I have heard as far east as Springfield, OH

Coldwater, MI-

A relatively open frequency for me. Mostly a weak WGRD- Grand Rapids, MI and sometimes WJLB- Detroit, MI. Less common, but not rare, is WLUP- Chicago or WGNR- Anderson, IN.

I can receive WNCI with varying signals from 175 miles away on my home set-up.

I actually logged WPXY once during e-skip here in Durham, North Carolina, a few years ago. Otherwise, 97.9 MHz around these parts is either Concord, NC's WPEG. Bayboro, NC's WNBB or Gaston, NC's WTRG, with the occasional interruption from Burlington, NC's WBYJ-LP.

Come next spring, Creedmoor, NC translator W253AZ (98.5 MHz) will move to 97.9 from Chapel Hill and rebroadcast WCHL 1360, which should be heard in most of Durham fairly well.

Other pick-ups on 97.9 here have included (call letters current at time of logging)...

KBFB, Dallas, TX
KODM, Odessa, TX
KBXX, Houston, TX
the aforementioned WPXY, Rochester, NY
WZZU, Lynchburg, VA
KWGB, Colby, KS
KFNW, Fargo, ND
WIHC, Newberry, MI
KRBB, Wichita, KS
WBAQ, Greenville, MS
KICK, Palmyra, MO
KOWI, Lamoni, IA
WJBQ, Portland, ME
CBAA, Allardville/Bathhurst, NB

Fresno/ Clovis, KMGV, 22 miles away at 4300 ft sealevel with 2.4 KW, Mega Oldies 97.9 , Old School R&B and Classic Hip-Hop.

Gibsonville (Burlington), NC

Less than three miles away, we have WBYJ-LP (We Bring You Jesus).

As you drive towards Greensboro, WPEG Concord-Charlotte takes over (Rap & Hip Hop).

From my two home bases:
-Palm Beach County: local 97.9 WRMF/Palm Beach. Never heard any tropo intereference here.
-Southern Rhode Island coast: during E-skip season, I have picked up the Portland, ME CHR station, Q 97.9.
