FM Frequency of the Week: 98.5

Let's start a FM one, I know Early one it was Buckeye who started these, He's not on these Forums no more

In Carmichael, CA

It's all KRXQ Sacramento

When I lived in Vallejo it was a Faint Signalof KRXQ Sacramento, Sometimes KUFX comes in, But not often

When I was growing up in Pacifica, CA in the 80's, KOME from San Jose

40 miles northwest of downtown Chicago., 98.5 is usually splatter from Chicago's WFMT. Sometimes, however, WXXQ from Freeport, IL breaks through. 11kw at just under 500 feet from 52 miles west of me.

I did a round of FM Frequencies of the Week between 2018-2021, by all means, carry on.

98.5 in East Tennessee is WTFM, Kingsport TN with an occasional WKSW (calls that were in Urbana, Ohio for a long time), Cookeville TN.

Mario, KFUX is essentially KOME. Its to bad that those call letters never stayed, after the the major change, mid summer of 1998. At least KOME is now in the Rock radio hall of fame.

I know one was "Album orientated Rock(KOME), but today, KUFX is "Today's Classic Rock, 98.5, KFOX"...I also miss 92.3 KSJO!! long live in memory 92......KSJO

OK,

San Jose, California

10KW 98.5, KUFX dominates the south bay

South Mississippi:

WYLD New Orleans (urban adult contemporary) has strong signal, only once I heard WFSY Panama City (adult contemporary) for a few seconds.

WYLD sometimes makes it in on tropo, here where I am this week in the Pensacola area. Same goes for the other New Orleans full full signal FMs. I've also heard WFSY here from time to time.

(WYLD-AM on 940 is present here on the beach 24/7...although at night, it's usually a battle with XEQ from Mexico city.)

On a great day, I can pick up WUPS from way up in Houghton Lake (100kW) but I rarely if ever receive the closer WNWN out of Coldwater (albeit at only 50kW)

Most days it's just an empty frequency.

WNWN would come into West Central Ohio anytime the band was open from that direction (as Stereo Country 98).

Here in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, it's local WSAX playing jazz with 100 watts from about five miles northwest of me, off the intersection of 270 and East Broad Street. It's technically non-directional, but the presence of WINF about 30 miles northwest in Delaware hampers WSAX going in that direction, sometimes as close as five miles from the tower.
Classic rock WNCX from Cleveland is the blaster in Ohio on that frequency in my experience.

When I lived near St. Louis it was always that blowtorch from Stono Mountain: KTJJ "J-98, The Boot." Here on Cape Cod I can get a very weak WBZ-FM.

Ellensburg Washington

KEYG Grand Coulee (Sunny FM, classic hits, ex-classic rock) sometimes mixed with CIOC Victoria BC (Adult Contemporary). Last night it got chewed on by E-skip. Didn't get any IDs on this channel, but I'm sure KUFX was in there and probably KRXQ and KDFO in CA, while Northern CA and Fresno were raging throughout the band. Once I heard KNBQ Central Park WA fading in and out with K-LOVE. They are often heard when I go hiking up in the Teanaway or in the White Pass area.

I have several IDed by Es however in the past:
KLUC Las Vegas
KYGO Denver
KABG Santa Fe NM
aforementioned KUFX San Jose
aforementioned KDFO Delano CA
KHAQ Maxwell NE
KTIS Minneapolis MN (my only Minneapolis FM)
KIFX Roosevelt UT
K253BR San Luis Obispo CA (was adult contemporary when I heard them - 250 watts)
KOLS-LP Oakhurst CA (only 100 watts! EWTN)
KDES Palm Springs CA
XHSAP Agua Prieta SON

WNWN was originally WTVB-FM, owned by prolific radio engineering consultant Harold Munn. In between, it was WANG, which used to be a an early electronic calculator manufacturer. Unfortunately, it got an urban dictionary definition later, like some of the call letters mentioned earlier in this thread.

Picture of Nixie tubes used in WANG Calculators.

My mom used to call country music "Wang Wang" so it fits WNWN's later country formats

@MarioMania Cool thread idea. May I revive this, but with like the farthest stations we've caught on a certain frequency?

Just wanted to be sure. I'll probably start next Friday if there's no objections.
