FM Frequency of the Week: 99.1

99.1 locally is overshadowed by WLRQ - Lite Rock 99.3 in Cocoa FL
WQIK Jacksonville FL - Jacksonville's Country is the most commonly heard regional FM (200 miles north of Melbourne) via "coastal tropo"

East Tennessee (Knoxville/Sevierville): Knoxville rimshot WNML, the Sports Animal. Occasionally I catch another signal in Sevier County briefly but no idea what.(Guess would be W256CY Bryson City NC-WCQS translator). WRJZ, Knoxville briefly located a translator for its religious programming on 99.1 in Sevierville to the outrage of sports fans everywhere in the county. That was quickly moved to 99.5.
Retro/other: Dayton, Ohio. The huge signal of WHKO.
An engineer in Lexington KY had a stream of a receiver on a tall tower tuned to 99.1. It was interesting to hear the signals drift in and out with WHKO predominating, but alternating with WRVQ, Roanoke, the Danville IL station, what was then classical KFUO St. Louis and others. That ended when a local fired up in Lexington.

A spotty signal from KNES Fairfield, "Texas 99.1". One of many country outlets in these parts. Often overtaken by "ZonaMX" KFZO Denton, a Regional Mexican station from Univision, or KODA from Houston, which is their at work station "Sunny 99.1".

Denver, CO -
For now, it's K256CT, the translator for KGNU(AM), which in turn simulcasts Boulder's KGNU-FM at 88.5. This is another Lookout Mountain translator with spotty coverage anywhere east of downtown Denver. However, KGNU has a CP to move the translator to...88.5. There will be a small amount of overlap between the main Boulder signal and the translator FM signal, but KGNU can obviously accept overlap with itself. Moreover, the new translator, apparent calls K203FQ, will be atop Republic Plaza, the tallest building in downtown Denver. Thus the signal in the city proper should improve in many locations. The CP was issued last September.

Clifton, New Jersey
I get WAWZ Zarephath, NJ. Currently, Star 99.1 is on analog and HD1. HD-only stations include Star 99.1 HD2 Gospel, and Energy 99.1 HD3. I have also received WPLR "99.1 PLR" New Haven, CT a few times during tropo.

In Charleston, SC probably one of my most interesting frequencies. Most frequent is WHBJ, a religious GNN Radio station from Barnwell about 90 or so miles away. Then you have an oldies translator from Beaufort, about 50 or so miles away. Jacksonville’s WQIK is probably second most common with country, then WZFX Whiteville, NC with urban (Fayetteville market). And maybe 2-3 times a year WSLQ Roanoke comes in.

Clear signal from KTLI/El Dorado. What started as a representation of small town radio turned into a small market player in the late 80s, first with urban and then a locally programmed CCM format. It has aired K-Love since late ‘04.
North Iowa:
Weak signal from KEEZ/Mankato.
