FM Frequency of the Week: 99.3

Hartland, VT:

WFRD Hanover, NH, active rock. Formerly owned by Dartmouth College, sold a couple of years ago to Claremont, NH-based Sugar River Broadcasting.

Meriden, CT:

Splatter from WPLR New Haven at 99.1.

Wilmington Delaware

Usually just splatter from next weeks' frequency 99.5 (WVCW) but 2 stations make occasional appearances -

WZBZ Atlantic City NJ with a Hip-Hop format. This is the hardest of the Atlantic City stations to hear in Wilmington.

WOWZ Accomac VA with Classic Country. It is a simulcast of WICO 101.1 in Salisbury MD. I heard WOWZ this morning coming in quite well apparently helped by the oppressive humidity in the area today (dew point 75).

East Tennessee: Depending where you are, either WNRX, Jefferson City or WPDX, Crossville, TN. WNRX was a simulcast partner for WNML, the Knoxville market's Sports Animal on 99.1. Cumulus downgraded the 99.3 signal, signing it off for awhile to move 99.1 to Friendsville and provide a closer to full market signal to WNML, making 99.3 no longer needed. The downgraded WNRX was sold to Lakeway Broadcasting, owners of WJFC 1480/92.9 and exclusively serves the Jefferson City area.

Bellingham, WA

The "World Famous" CFOX Vancouver BC. Class C 100kW @ 368M HAAT. Like most of the Vancouver stations the HAAT is quite misleading as the station broadcasts from the side of a mountain range. Actual height above sea level is 651m, and their market area is almost entirely at sea level or very close. It definitely gets out.

Unlike the other Vancouver Cs, this one is a bit directional to protect a co-channel in S Puget Sound. So it fades a bit quicker as you head south on I - 5. It is a blaster from my home listening area for sure. Format is pretty different for such a successful station (#1 Men 25-54.) Never described on the air other than World Famous, it is a mix of recent rock and rock oriented Alt, with roughly once an hour "classic CFOX" which is typically a Led Zep or AC/DC or similar. Otherwise 90s to current rock. Not much in the way of active or hard rock. And of course the everpresent CanCon. Typical hour:

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS
VASOLINE

GREEN DAY
DILEMMA

BIG WRECK
ALBATROSS

LINKIN PARK
IN THE END

THE BEACHES
GROW UP TOMORROW

DEPECHE MODE
PERSONAL JESUS

METRIC
HELP I'M ALIVE

THE OFFSPRING
THE KIDS AREN'T ALRIGHT

GORILLAZ
FEEL GOOD INC

For comparison, an hour of WFRD, Hanover NH:

Tyler, TX:

KAPW White Oak, Regional Mexican "Mega 99.3" with a good overall signal.

Denver, CO - Buzzing from the HD sideband of local 99.5 KQMT.

Clifton, New Jersey

I get splatter from 99.5 WBAI New York, NY. However, I have been able to receive WRWB Ellenville, NY on my TEF6686 and Qodosen DX-286 in a few spots. Both radios have been able to pick up WMNP Brock Island, RI and WZBZ Atlantic City, NJ during tropo. None of my other radios can do that.
