FM Gospel for 101.9

Look at the 1.0 HH rtg WLIB achieved in the latest book. First consider it's on an AM signal. Then consider that 101.9 WRXP managed a lower rating, 0.9, with an FM signal. Then consider who owns WRXP: Emmis, who with sister station KISS FM should know their way around gospel broadcasting. Most likely Emmis would do better to flip to gospel. The gospel could be intersperced with more black-oriented talk programming, like Radio One does on some of its stations.

Why would they do that and perhaps cut into the ratings for Kiss-FM? That would be cutting off their nose to spite their face. Especially when they're thisclose to being the No. 1 station overall.

Radio One and Clear Channel have Urban, Urban ACs and Gospel together in their clusters all over America. And look at WLIB, that's owned by Inner City. Inner City didn't let that worry them, and for a while there WBLS's ratings were embarassing Kiss-FM. If anything, Kiss took at hit for a while there by letting Inner City get gospel on the real dial.

Gospel formats do not bill well in relation to their ratings in the market that have it on FM. So a .9 on WRXP and a 1.0 on a NYC AM means that RXP will bill a lot more and considering their is a shortage of FMs for NYC and stations that advertisers want to advertise on will win out for the limited FM signals.
