I know English is a second language sometimes... but, when trying to communicate on this board... if you're not writing proper thoughts in the verbiage we can all understand... this can result in a big "huh???". Try to rephrase that, my man...

From what I've heard about AM in Japan, is that AM stereo did very well over there, and AM still has a huge audience. Even music stations still are found on the AM band. From what I have read, AM will be around there for a long time.

I kinda understand the question.....Analog TV in Japan was using the part of the spectrum that we use for FM. *Their* FM band is 76-90 MHz or thereabouts.

I did not know analog TV was gone in Japan.

I think that AM is still doing just fine in Japan....AM Stereo is used a lot. Many of Tokyo's AM stations use 100 kW or more, and although FM will do better in buildings and is not prone to lightning strikes, it'd take a load of power to have the same coverage area.

(It is possible that Japan's DTV is still in the spectrum of the Americas' FM frequencies. I really do not know.)

According to WIkipedia, the analog shutdown in Japan was supposed to happen last fall. Because of the earthquake, they extended it for a few months (only in the earthquake area?) and the analogs finally went off about 3 weeks ago.

I can't find anything that says what part of the TV spectrum is being used for DTV there -- whether it's all UHF, or they're using VHF spectrum as well.

He means, "Are the mediumwave stations in Japan going to be moved to 90-108 MHz, now that analogue transmissions on mediumwave have been discontinued?"

(Yes, his "English" is pretty hard to understand sometimes. Helps to have someone on here who's fluent in Newspeak, doesn't it?)

And yeah, I've not heard anything about mediumwave transmissions being discontinued in Japan, either. If it's happening (or already has happened) this is news to me.

That would be bad news for you TP DX folks on the west coast!
