FM news-talk coming to the Gulf Coast

From All Access:

WBUV/Biloxi Flipping to NewsRadio 104.9
CLEAR CHANNEL is flipping Urban WBUV (V104.9)/BILOXI to News-Talk as NEWSRADIO 104.9 effective MONDAY (10/17). Sister Country WKNN (K-99.1) PD KIPP GREGORY takes over the PD reins at the new station, while middayer BOB DEVER takes over the PD post at K-99.1.
______________

I think at this point, it will serve the market good. Unfortunately, there goes another Doug Banks affiliate. But, the market still has JZ 94.5, even tho they aren't perfectly the same, the urban audience isn't completely alienated. It's just all sad.

It hasn't been a Doug Banks affiliate for a while. A while back, they dropped him for Russ Parr.

Anyhoo, the format change still hasn't happened yet.

While it sucks that they do lose an urban, there is a place in Biloxi/Gulfport for a viable news/talker. WTNI is nowhere close to a viable N/T.
______________

What is the deal with the change. Has the staff been let go. Originally, was there a staff. Just Curious. By the way how did clear channel easily move this station back to the original city of lic. Thanks

If it's still Moss Point, that's been the city of license since 104.9 was a Mobile-market station.
______________

And the move to the Vancleve site was only considered a Minor Mod. in the eyes of the Commission. Very easy.

Yep. It's been Moss Point since the original sign-on, when it had a sister AM on 1460 (now very, very dark). It IDed as Moss Point-Pascagoula back then.

WKKY... the station that gave "Reverend Red" his big break! A dubious honor?

Oh, and an interesting footnote. 104.9 has an application pending for a translator on 104.3 in Gulfport -- 250w @ ~150'. The proposed site is west of Hwy 49 at I-10 and Canal Road, presumably to fill in the western fringe of 104.9's signal.
