FM Radios with RDS?

I'm looking (Not Ebay) anywhere but Ebay I want to find a receiver with RDS, that's not to pricy. I had the Sangean HD1x it's a great tuner, but the buttons are starting to get harder to press. I am having no luck at finding any receiver any suggestions?

Sangean ATS-909X?? It's pricey though at around $250.

Look for Zune MP3 players. Many of these have built-in radios that have RDS, some even with HD radio. I don't think the reception is that great though. These use the headphone wire as an antenna. I remember one time bringing one on a plane (although technically not allowed) and listening to FM radio and picking up some station IDs while stations were fading in and out.

Thanks, I'm looking more of a home unit for my stereo. I don't like using the radio built in my AV system I always used another FM radio. I need something that I can hook my outdoor antenna up to.

I don't know what price range for pricy is.

My Sangean PR-D5 has RDS and I got it almost four years ago.

The buttons and the tuning knob are still in great condition and I've used the manual tuner like crazy.

If I remember correctly, I paid around $70 for it and a little of that was for the shipping.

Great solid radio! The batteries last very long time too

I need something that I can hook my outdoor antenna up to.

Though there's not an external antenna connection on the PR-D5, I would think that there has to be some kind of adaptor out there that can connect a folding antenna on a portable radio to a 75 or 300 Ohm wire.

I went ahead and ordered a Sangean WR-2, I own 3 of those radios now. They are very good at sensitivity and plus they have all the hook ups I need to put on my stereo. They are a little bulky but do the job!

I can re-furb that unit for you, fix the buttons. Contact me off list.

Thanks for the offer but I already ordered another radio, I almost like the desktop radio better. With HD fading away I don't have much use for it right now.

It is sure a great analog tuner - incredible for DX. I've done 300 mile reception routinely on it with an outdoor antenna. Amazing that somebody would make a tuner of that quality in this junk electronics era.

It appears to be that there may soon be an updated version of the Sangean PR-D5 called the PR-D15 thought not yet available at this time. According to the Herculodge website, the new radio keeps the 8" ferrite bar but adds the much needed carrying handle, finer tuning steps in AM, and possibly a DSP chip.

Since the original post was asking about RDS - does the PR-D5 and D15 have RDS display on the FM?

I've found RDS only marginally useful. When you are digging out really deep fringe DX, it is useful for ID'ing a station, but that assumes the station is strong enough to display RDS. So many times, the problem is a combination of sensitivity and selectivity. When you put those 150 or 110 kHz IF ceramic filters in - RDS often suffers, but it is a good trade-off to get the station you are after. Usually - if RDS is displaying, I have a really good chance of getting HD decode as well.
