Can't throw an antenna up on the roof (as much as I would like to) any suggestions as to best antenna for indoor use?

As long as you haven't got a tin roof, a yagi in the attic is the move.
Isn't a yagi directional?
I'm trying to pull stations in from the northeast and west.

Dependinbg the signal strength, either a turnstile in the atic, or two yagos pointed at the stations of interest. Set them back to back, and parallel them with about 60 inches of 300 ohm lead.
This is for my dad's condo-- so attic isn't an option anyway 
Hang a turnstile from the ceiling. Dangle some thread with plastic bits on, and it's a mobile from the 60s. I'm allergic to condos, compartment houses, and neighborhood associations. Total misanthrope.
