FM Skip From Texas Heard in Vegas

While driving to lunch, I noticed lots of extra stations between the normal spots on the FM dial here in Las Vegas. Lots of country radio as Texas radio is booming in loud and clear. I am back in my studio and now listening to a rock-solid signal from KNUE 101.5 in Tyler, Texas.

After a few minutes, the signal is fading in and out, but still listenable.

Switching frequencies, I am now listening to 102.1 KDGE The Edge from Dallas. Modest Mouse is sounding good with a full stereo signal; but is not strong enough for my tuner to recognize the HD signal at all.

A half-hour later, stations are still fading in and out from Tyler, TX.

Now listening to 101.1 KRMD Shreveport, LA.

And now hearing some great small-town commercials from Paris, TX on 93.9 KOYN.

95.1 KEWL Texarkana playing Steely Dan's FM.

Interesting stuff today...

Here in New Mexico Austin Texas is overpowering the local KHFM on 95.5. Wiping it out completely at times.

Wish I had my 6m rig working :)

Drove from Vegas to Phoenix this afternoon and heard "ESPN 97.5" KFNC Beaumont (targeting Houston) clearly along the stretch of I-40 outside of Kingman (it also helps that they broadcast in mono, being a spoken-word format). Also heard other stations on different frequencies, and multiple stations on 104.3 (a talk station with Fox News Radio and Rush Limbaugh, a country station fed from a satellite feed, and an Air-1 repeater, blending in with KFRH Las Vegas and KAJM Camp Verde-Phoenix).

So it works both ways? KGCB in Prescott was overpowering KTSU's fringe signal at noon CDT. (I started a thread about this earlier today.)

Yes, it definitely goes both ways, so here's a back at ya' to the OP, from here in Texas: heading into the Dallas area Wednesday afternoon, about 75 miles southeast, I got a solid lock on "KOMP" FM 92.3 from Las Vegas. I also caught a few minutes from KXO-FM El Centro CA. This was an amazing opening but unfortunately, since I was driving, I couldn't get positive ID's on all the stuff coming in. I did catch enough, however, to make me believe there were many stations coming in from not only from Las Vegas and Southern California, but Arizona as well.

Around noon in Houston today, heard 94.9 FM Tuscon KMXZ and 101.5 FM Phoenix KZON... even though there's a 101.5 in Austin, overpowered it like it wasn't there.. these stations came in on seek..

Thanks for the post JD! Yesterday, I was asking the station engineer, Bill Croghan, if it goes both ways and he said "absolutely". Very cool to get a report from someone that actually heard KOMP from Vegas!!
