FM Sports Station for ATL--would anyone listen?

With the state of AM radio as it is, and with the economic and social issues of the day leaving many seeking psychological stimulation (or numbing), does anyone think that an FM Sports Radio Station independent of current groups would draw worthy interest in Metro Atlanta?

how come FM Talk was never tried in atlanta? the kind KLSX in l.a. had (carolla, frosty heidi and frank, leykis, sam phillips) i dont know atlanta just seems like the perfect market where this would work...

You'd better believe that it would work. The best solution, though, is to take the already-successful sports shows that Atlanta has on AM radio, and migrate them over to FM. It saves money and it kicks butt.

Couldn't get Real Radio while driving in my 8 year old car, with a quality AM/FM receiver already in place...while stuck in downtown ATL traffic for more than 90 minutes. If I could hear a great FM station carrying Atlanta's coverage of college/pro sports, it might catch my interest for more than one day...and there are going to be thousands more of the commuters/potential advertising guinea pigs listening to their older radios in their used cars for the foreseeable future.

Real Radio was on 105.3, one of the worst mid-to-high-power FM signals at covering the northern suburbs.

Additionally, CC tried doing "hot talk" right after the Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction" and (IIRC) the backwards porn incident on TRG, so everyone was uneasy about doing anything too "hot". "Tepid talk" would have been a more apt description.

Lastly, the station had NO big names on it to "anchor" the schedule. CC would have loved to have had Stern, but Infinity wasn't going to let anyone else have him if 92.9 couldn't.

WGST on 105.7 did respectably--and that was a simulcast of an AM. Of course, that was when WGST had real programming. Although Glenn Beck is finally getting traction in this market.

I wonder if Cumulus would consider simuling 680 on 100.5...? If that fails, they can always move 99X to it.
