FM TALK COMING HERE IN JANUARY???

Hey Guys:

I hear from Dick Farrell that he might be going to a new FM talk station coming to town??

Anybody have any ideas what he is talking about?? 103.1 perhaps??

T.J.

One rumor: 92.1. Although there is some overlap in the West Palm Beach market with 94.7, would anyone be surprised to see WJNO to be put on the FM dial? That would allow "Rush Radio" or WJNO to blanket both the Treasure Coast and Palm Beach County with FM signals.

I agree with Scott. JNO simulcast on one of CC's FM's is a safe bet. That is a trend happening all over, in creating and "FM" talk outlet. I don't see CBS WPB building a talk station from scratch from the ground up. But CC just simulcasting what's already on the air...yeah.

I am thinking it is West Palm Beach market. Dick Farrell is only known in that market.

Yeah, Dick Farrell is great, but sadly yeah, only known in the West Palm Market, so don't see him on 103.5 in Broward. However, say, if CC was to use 92.1 to run WJNO, and 103.5 is CC station....that would the Treasure and Gold Coast with talk radio on the FM. So maybe Farrell would get on in Broward/Dade.

And speaking of CBS, I was just driving north on 95, and saw a CBS billboard for the new 103.1 Now. The billboard is located near the Bevedere Rd. exit in West Palm Beach. There is no way they would put up a billboard if they were planning on blowing up the station within days.

Hey Guys:

He mentioned something about WIOD that he was on long ago. Which I didn't even know myself. Was that a hint??

Maybe it is 103.5. I see that have crappy ratings anyway. He keeps saying a big powerful radio station.

Hey Guys:

I looked on Dick's facebook page and he put in one of the comments

"Look for me coming to a BIG station that can be heard all over south florida"

I hope the hell it is not BIG 105.9!! Another rock station lost!! ??? Big has better ratings then 103.5!! ugh!!!!

I think it's 850 WFTL, because he also mentioned somewhere on his Facebook that it's an AM station, but the deal "hasn't been inked yet" officially, he added.

The original poster said that this will be in the West Palm Beach market, not Miami-Ft. Lauderdale. If it is an FM station, that would preclude Big or 103.5. While Big's signal is very good, I would not say that 103.5's signal blankets South Florida. I still stand by my original prediction: 92.1.

Dick Farrell started in So Fla in the mid-80's, at a time when many other conservative hosts were becoming local institutions in their markets. Mark Davis, Mark Belling, Tom Bauerle, et.al. If So Fla
were like other markets, Farrell would be the equivalent of those hosts: the conservative icon of the market. He isn't, of course, which shows once again, South Florida is different.

It's about time that WFTL blows up that awful morning show

WFTL? They're too buzy brokering airtime to Haitians and other non-talents and snakeoil pitchmen that don't belong on the air.

Farrell has talent, thus he's not a good fit for that station. WFTL is too "small" potatoes for Farrell....just 'cause they have a 50 K signal, doesn't mean they are "big."

However, the BIG assumption seems valid ~ you got Ron & Paul on 105.9 and 98.7. Could Farrell be going to the Gater and follow up Ron & Paul? That way, you still have BIG classic rock AND you get an FM talker in WPB.

Since Farrell is eluding to both AM and FM in his posts: Prediction. He signs a deal with WJNO. Clear Channel simulcasts WJNO onto 92.1 ~ that sounds the most logical.

This deal is definitely involving a Clear Channel property. Period.

No way will it be another FM talk in Palm Beach from Clear Channel. They've already got WZZR. A simulcast of WJNO is possible, but a local talk station? Not happening.

But "hot talk" (like WZZR) is a different animal from mainline talk (like WJNO)....there won't be any confusion....
