FM Talk in Miami?

I'd say the market is overdue for one and my guess is that either 94.9 or 93.9 would be the sacrificial lamb. I think it would take pretty well down here. Thoughts?

I think an FM version of WIOD would be very beneficial to that station's listenership. Other than that, the traditional "FM talk" stations pushed by companies like CBS Radio have tanked everywhere and it's a format that PDs aren't willing to touch. Stations like Real Radio 104.1 in Orlando have been on the air for 15 years giving it plenty of time to build an audience, but even today it's not in the top 10. Not to mention I just can't stand that lame station and don't want to see any copies of it spread outside of Orlando.

WIOD is already on 94.9 HD-2....A prelude of things to come??

Motivating this idea is the fact that I believe that the land for the WIOD transmitter (next to the WSVN studios) in North Bay Village has been sold for condos, and any new site may not yield the same coverage for 610, so the feasible alternative for IOD would be to relocate to a 100kw FM signal.

Really? I had no idea as I avoid CC stations like the plague. That sounds about right for CC, though, putting the English language programming on the HD channel of a Spanish station... Ask them for coffee and they'll bring you a urine sample and swear that's what you asked for.

They sold the isle of dreams? That's not exactly a big piece of land if I recall. I don't know why anyone would want to built condos in a Miami suburb at this time either, with the way property taxes have increased in Florida and the insurance after the hurricanes in 05. The last time I visited in July 07, the market was practically dead.

The advantage of IOD's location is because it's in salt water its signal crawls right up the coast. They probably couldn't get that kind of coverage on land.

Why even think about doing this to 93.9? Did you see the ratings for WLVE? There are other CC stations sitting lower in the ratings.

Not sure, other than what i've heard from people in the business about the future of the smooth jazz format. Were it happen tomorrow, 94.9 would be the one to go. A year or two from now, 93.9 would be my guess.

Putting WIOD on FM is a great idea though it's 10+ years too late. It was definitely better when it was under the Cox regime. Now that it's under CC's mismanagment it is truly "the Isle Of Dementia". Neil... GOD!! ;D
