FM Talk in Tallahassee?

There is currently an opening for an FM talk PD position at Clear Channel in Tallahasee, according to All Access. Is CC getting ready to flip one of its FM stations to talk? If that's the case, which station is it? Does anybody know?

It's WFLA-FM 100.7 Tallahassee Florida flip it to 100.7 The Beat to NewsRadio (all talk and news) and the return of sports on WNLS-AM 1270 The Team. I know it kind of cousfed on the 1st day flip.

So we only have 2 newstalk-fm station in tallahassee.

106.1 NewsTalk FM WUTL-FM
100.7 NewsRadio FM WFLA-FM

The booting of the "Beat" comes as a real surprise. Given that X-101.5 had the lowest overall ratings of all the FM stations in the CC Tallahassee cluster, that station would have been the logical candidate for a format flip. But, hey, this is Clear Channel, where logic is all but non-existent.

Oh, and with WNLS going to sports, Tallahassee now has two sports stations as well: 1270 The Team, and 1410 The Fan (WHBT).

yeah, now they will have 2 low rated stations at 100.7 and 101.5

X101.5 may have low ratings but that's a little off... I don't think college kids have any way to get ratings books. The advertisers know that FSU students are listening and therefore keep it on the air. From what I've heard, X101.5 has lots of local commercials.

Same situation with "The Buzz" at UF.

Does anyone in Tallahassee have any inside info on station billing?

Thanks to CC and elsewhere Crumulus ---

Anyone notice how quickly FM is starting to sound like AM??? Hmm! And who listens to AM anymore. Seems like a great trend.
Congrats to having one of the most overtalked small radio markets in the world. And more radio listeners continue to discover
alternative listening sources. These companies are creating dinosaurs faster than I ever thought possible. What a joke.

Realistically, talk had to go to FM IMHO. Tallahassee is an overradioed market for its size, not overtalked. Too many FM squeeze-ins over the years.

In the FM-music era, Tallahassee has also been one of the worst AM markets in the country. Ironically, it was one of the better markets in the waning days of AM music radio, thanks to the huge shares pulled down by WANM before all those move-ins.

When Rush was on WTAL in the 90's, all AM listening was down around a two share at one point.

Panama City's main talker is already on FM. Ditto Gainesville.

Having worked at both FM talkers mentioned above, The Sky (Gainesville) and Talk Radio 101 (Panama City), it really seems by having talk to FM you will pick up listeners that do not traditionally listen to talk radio, ie younger listeners. The trick is keeping them.

CC needs to look down the 10 to staff that station if they are trying to go FM News-Talk. I wouldn't mind seeing the FM Talk station here get a little handicapped before the next book comes out. Come on Tallahasse help a "sister" out.
