FM Talk Radio Needed Badly!

For now WBAI has a virtual monopoly on FM Talk in New York. We need a real grass roots talker to keep the FM dial alive! No Podcast can duplicate a live call in show. I want a mature sounding talk show for the younger listeners to cover real topics that make it a better life for both youth and parents. WNEW trashed out so badly, using childish pranks and foul sounding garbo. That’s not what’s needed. What’s needed is a radio show unafraid to fight bad government and bad foreign policy without being Communist, able to fight bad laws without promoting crime. Able to protect Civil Rights without being too far right or left. In these uncertain times we need confidence that someone is there to protect the United States Constitution. Perhaps that sounds corny to some, however this must be done and if it isn’t done, the special interests will do it, the way they want, and not the way the people want. Small efforts, done today, make big impacts on the future. Also it would be nice to know a station is on the air to take my call. We don’t need another soft spine idiot like Bill O’Riley to screw things up. There is room on the dial for this. Now it’s up to you to take the ball and run with it…. Who knows? You may score a Touchdown!

I really wonder how many young people would listen to talk radio even on FM. I am one of those freaks that discovered talk radio around 13 and almost 20 years later still listen. To think that talk shows & stations really have a serious impact on our society to change things is brought on by talk show hosts who try to be bigger than life. I mean Rush and Sean have approx 15 million listeners yet how many people change their views on issues based on what these guys say. I enjoy both shows but I know they are generally preaching to the choir and while do serve a purpose to counter the tradional media they are not the sole voice of opposition anymore.
I think to rely on talk radio to seriously change a large number of people for any political persuasion is giving the medium a higher importance that it serves. Talk radio is just part of media world along with tv networks, public radio, newspapers, blogs, internet news sites that provide information with different levels of biases.

With Howard Stern and friends moving to Sirius and others to XM ,who is left to talk?Imus?Hes older than anything,Rush?Thats on AM ,isnt it?What talent is left to even put on FM talk? Why waste an FM frequency? WBAI or 94.7 are already there to do that ..Honestly most car radios pick up am and I tune to Nj101.5 every now and then but Talk in NYC flopped on 102.7FM talk, why would it work now?Opie and Anthony are even on XM....We have no oldies or country station ,how about flipping Lite FM back to country since 102.7 pretty much plays the exact same songs NOW.All they'd have to add on 102.7 is some office music like Celion dion. All done.
Edited by artynj on 06/15/05 02:01 AM.

If a NYC FM station wants to flip to talk, bring Air America from WLIB-AM to one of the FM frequencies. WLIB has a poor signal, especially at night.

Thank you for your interest.
The young people I know have a bleak outlook on the future. Many people of all ages feel powerless to do anything about it. That causes depression. Many youths have been burned by the system. Later in life taxes and red tape often hamper any hopes for starting a buisness or making money at a good job. I am interested in keeping all political parties under control of the people. I don't know what host to bring in, just someone that can figure out what listeners can do to prevent more problems with government and restore hope and self confidence to a troubled generation. AM radio has it's place, however you know well the limitations of signal, day and night time signal problems and sweet spots on the dial. Another issue is when you cannot call a leading AM talk show because either the screeners are nasty or the line is busy. As an industry the radio buisness has to keep above water to pay the bills. Now we have Ipods, along with pay radio to contend with. Any plan to generate new listeners is a good plan. Also talk radio fans are very involved and often visit advertisers more so than music fans. I hope this covers all of the above replies....

FM Talk, it's been tried, it failed, where have you been?.

Just because Infinity fails at something, doesnt mean that it cant be done.
Talk FM on WNEW (when it was talk FM) is very different from Air America radio. Also there are talk FM stations in Los Angeles (KLSX), Orlando (WTKS) Chicago and Washington DC.
