FM Translator Dismissal Guide

Tuesday, the FCC made public their list of which applications had been 'voluntarily' withdrawn from the 2003 Translator Window.

They released instructions on how to coax the information from the CDBS. I found that it didn't work in most cases, at least for me.
Quoting the FCC:
To obtain the last filed tech box, go to CDBS Public Access
(http://licensing.fcc.gov/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/cdbs_pa.htm) and select “Search for Application Information.” In
the Application Search page, in “File Number,” enter “BNPFT” in the first box and “200303%” in the second box.
In “Applicant name” enter the applicant name. Then, click on “Submit Application Search” at the bottom of the
page. In the vast majority of cases, this will provide all of the Short Forms for that applicant. In the few instances
with applicants that have filed major change applications, we will be uploading the application selections and cap
showings to the last-filed “BNPFT” application. When the list of applications is presented, click on the “Info”
hyperlinks for the first listed application. Then, at the bottom of the next page, click on the “View Correspondence
Folder” link to reveal all cap submissions (labeled as “Imported Letter” with today’s date) for that applicant.

So I have found an alternative method to allow people to find out which FM translator applications have been withdrawn.

Go to the FM Query page:
http://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/fm-query-broadcast-station-search

Choose the State you want to search.
In "Application File Number:" enter 2003031
Press "enter" key.
This will return (this will bring up all applications filed in that state during that time frame, nearly all are FM translators)

Click on "NEW" for whichever application you want to check.

When new page opens, scroll halfway down to the link "Application Info" and click it.
About 10 lines down, you'll see "Status:"
If status is Received, the application is still being pushed ahead.
If status is Dismissed, it's gone. If the date in the line below is 2/05/2012, then it was dismissed as part of the translator application cap.

Yeah, I got that same warm feeling when I found out that the MX I've been sweating the most has been dismissed.

Now, if the FCC would just start actually processing rather than just dismissing....

It's easier yet to find out the status of the FM translator apps. Today, the FCC FM translator records were updated.

All of the withdrawn applications have now been removed from the database. You can find out who still has a horse in the race and who doesn't at the FM Query Page using the instructions in my first post. But now, those that were dismissed don't show up at all, so you don't have to look at them one at a time.

For the record, I now see 2789 FM Translator Applications from the 2003 window still alive. That's more than half that didn't make it.

Here in Washington state, there were 289 apps yesterday before the axe fell. Now there are 94.
