FM Translator for our AM station

Hello all....we've been in the hunt for a couple years plus to purchase an FM translator for our WXEX-AM 1540 Exeter, NH so if you know of one for sale (or yourself have one) please contact Steve Thomas either by phone at 207-324-1183 or 603-583-4767 or via email to [email protected]k you!

I would start calling up the religious stations in the area, the ones that have translators that is. There's been a bunch of sales happening recently in Maine and they all involve religious translators that are being converted to simulcasting an AM station. You might have to invest in a frequency change and/or make a couple jumps in the location of the translator but it can be done. NHPR is in the process of signing on full powered FM signals, so they must have some FM translators you could get your hands on.

Thank you for your suggestion. I've been in contact with a couple of the religious broadcasters for awhile now and they've indicated they'll allow me to bid on their translator(s) if and when they're put on the market. Sure hope at some point soon that occurs as we'd like to have our AM 1540 licensed to Exeter...be able to serve after and before critical hours more than the roughly 20% of the town limits the blazing three watts the commission allows us to use. We've been fortunate the past several months that WDCD out of Albany NY has been off-the-air as they usually hammer us pretty good during critical hours and overnight right even in our own community of license.

There is W260AS 99.9 FM in Haverhill, MA that you might be able to get to Exeter in one move (interference contours may overlap). Right now, it relays a rather noisy off-air religious signal from Maine.

Too bad you guys couldn't have snagged the 92.1 in Peterborough last summer. While it was off, I was able to receive your Sanford 92.1 with some noise in Manchester.

The other one that comes to mind is the 90.3 NHPR translator in Nashua, although switching it to commercial use may not be possible. Not sure why NHPR is keeping this, since 90.3 seems redundant now that the 88.3 full power completely covers the area.

Now this is something I'd support. At least there would be some sort of local service on the stick in Haverhill. I've listened to WXEX in my travels and love the format, a true local flare to it. First caught my attention at a store I was in while shopping in York. Kudos to keeping local radio local.

How about 102.3 FM in Biddeford. Been for sale a while, surprised you hadn't noticed. Perfect match as you could probably do it in one hop. Probably a real bargain too as they have a lot of translators collecting dust.

I thought that was going to 1220 in Sanford?

Correct.....licensee of WWSF-AM 1220 purchased the 102.3 FM translator and the FCC has already granted approval for it to be moved to Sanford....just not operational yet.
