FM Translator for sale in Sacramento

Per the listing at MCH Enterprises, Inc., they're facilitating the sale of an FM translator in the "capital city" that sits on an AM tower and is fill-in for it's primary at 240 watts.

Stations For Sale - MCH Enterprises, Inc..

I'm thinking it's the K296GB 107.1 translator owned by EMF and used by iHeartMedia? I believe it's located on the middle tower of KLIB 1110 AM in Roseville (along with the translator's parent station KYRV 93.7 HD-2).

I'm more curious about the listing below the translator:

CENTRAL VALLEY AM, BIG SIGNAL in the San Joaquin Valley, currently silent, has no translator, the 3 towers are included, no studio/office. Pop count of over 800,000. Asking for $295,000 plus 2k a month site lease.

Any guesses?

Has EMF ever used MCH as a broker before? That seems pretty weird. They have connections with every large broadcaster and they have been based in Rocklin for decades until recently and likely know the other local broadcasters.

I would venture to guess the translator for sale is actually K251CA (98.1 FM) that is 240 watts and is co-owned, translates, and transmits from KJAY (1430 AM).

KQEQ 1210 Fowler. 3 tower am, currently listed as silent, has no translator attached and it covers fresno, which itself has nearly 600K people. Its the only 3 tower in the san juaqin valley on the fcc silent list.

Man - lots of translators in SAC. They did a good job of crowding the dial. The ones repeating AM's are:

K249FJ - 97.7 - Repeats KSMH - on a different tower than the AM
K239CK - 95.7 - Repeats KCVV - on a different tower than the AM
K251CA - 98.1 - Repeats KJAY - mentioned above
K283CM - 104.5 - Up in Auburn, but does sort of cover the metro. 250 watts though - not 240
K284CM - 104.7 - Repeats KSAC - on a different tower than the AM
K290CT - 105.9 - Repeats KIID - on a different tower than the AM
K289CT - 105.7 - Repeats KFIA - on a different tower than the AM

Yup. Gotta be K251CA. That one is marginal at best, with Lazer's KLMG, a rimshot at 97.9.

I have to laugh at that one. “Big Signal”. 5kw days, and less than .5kw at night with mediocre ground conductivity on the east side of the San Joaquin Valley.

There are several three-tower stations in the Valley. Here are just a few:
KCBC, KFIG, KFPT, KQEQ, KVIN, KATD, KSTE, KWSX, KLOC, KLBS, KSTN, KCVR, plus the many Bakersfield ones... That's a big list.

It's a big penalty to be directional these days.

If it's K251CA, whoever purchases should have a plan to move it from the current site for better coverage of Sacramento. I can see why KJAY can live without it. This is a case where the directional AM coverage of Sac metro is far superior than it's FM translator. Night coverage is the exception. But their main Asian and religious programming is during daytime hours.

Any idea what an FM HD subchannel would go for in Sacramento? $3,000 to $5,000/month?

$250k isn't that bad if the signal can be upgraded to cover well the city of Sacramento and put a good signal towards the foothills.

But most of those have studios and only one is listed as silent

I hear K251CA all the times on my walk to Walmart in Carmichael

On Great days I get KISQ via Tropo, It mixes with K251CA & K251CE (Yuba City) repeats 1600 KUBA
