FM Whip antenna to replace windshield antenna for a Buick LaCrosse

I'm trying to find a replacement whip antenna that will connect directly to the aftermarket Pioneer radio in my Buick LaCrosse, to replace the in-glass antenna that it is currently connected to which uses an amplified antenna adapter. Which stores carry them and which companies do installs of these antennas? I asked the mobile Geek Squad tech at best buy and they suggested a rubber-ducky type antenna but I know those don't work as well as a real steel whip. He also said that only certain kinds of antennas could be installed on certain cars. Is that true?

Keep looking until you find a more informed store.
Auto parts stores WILL have a whip antenna, just keep looking.

There are no rules about certain antennas on certain cars.
It's all a matter of preference.

I prefer a whip, but those who design vehicles don't.

The abbreviated and/or hidden antennas can work, but almost never as well as properly sized antenna.

Well thats Geek Squad the same people who try to tell unknowing customers a $100 HDMI cable will give them better picture quality than a $5 cable. Anyone who the basics about digital signals knows thats not necessarily true.

You could try other places, maybe a local car repair shop. You could also purchase the antenna first and then bring it somewhere to install. Unless they were talking about the base of the antenna mount (different mounting angles on different cars), I don't see why an antenna wouldn't be universal.

Not sure what stores are in your area, you could try NAPA or Advanced Auto type stores. They will have more stock since they are strictly car parts stores and probably more knowledgeable staff. NAPA's website comes up with a few different 31" antennas when I type in buick antenna and they have a GM part number so they will probably have something in stock that works.

There are two sizes of antenna connectors that I know of, and GM uses a smaller size in more recent cars. I have seen the adapters in almost any store that sells a good selection of auto parts, even Walmart.

So then I would need to make sure the plug that comes with the whip antenna has the larger plug in order to connect directly to the aftermarket Pioneer radio? I just want to avoid using an adapter as those can have signal loss.
