Fm/WIFI interference

How far away from a WIFI/Wireless internet providers antenna should a FM transmit antenna be located? We are building a translator, only 30watts and the tower owner told us we could mount 10 feet away from the wireless internet antenna is this far enough away? I was told that WIFI puts out a low wattage and we would need 20 feet. Please help.

Wi-Fi is something like 2.4 ghz, (some around 5 ghz) and most are unlicensed with very little power. So the Wi-Fi will not be a problem to the translator. However, the translator may cause problems with the Wi-Fi.

Many of these units consist of a little box mounted at the antenna which has the Wi-Fi transmitter inside. Power is run up the tower to the unit. A lot of these things are designed by computer guys, not RF people, so there may not be very good shielding or very effective by-passing of the power supply. So your 30 watt translator 10 feet away may put too much RF into their equipment.

To be safe, I would mount the translator antenna at least 15 feet lower. Also, space the antenna at an odd multiple of an FM wavelength from the Wi-Fi antenna. One wavelength at FM is about 9 feet.
