FM XMTR in Indiana Township.

Back when I was young , foolish and had not much else better to do, I'd take the time to track down transmitter sites for a look-see.On some special occasions I even had the opportunity to pummel a hapless engineer with questions. <G>
One of those occasions occured back in the late Seventies in Indiana Township in northern Allegheny County. As I recall they had a four bay array and a transmitter shack so small that you had to step outside to change your mind. I can't recall the calls or the frequency, but I do remember that they dabbled in broadcasting some programming using Sansui's QS matrix multichannel system.

Does anyone else recall who they were and where they went?
Thanks,

RJ

This is just a guess, but that might have been the original WNUF transmitter site. They later becaume WXXP, Mix, Mix Jamz, K-Bear, and now Star 100.7, which is still licensed to New Kensington.

Another possibility is WYDD, which actually had studios in New Ken, but I think their stick was located with WKPA-AM on a hilltop across the river, near what is now Pittsburgh Mills. I actually think I recall WYDD experimenting with Quad, which made sense because they were free-form rock. This station is now WPGB, News Talk 104.7.

Third possibility is WDSY, Y108. Sister station WEEP (1080) had, and still has their towers not too far from there along Route 8 in the Hampton-Richland Township area.

All 3 stations are now on the same tower on the North Side overlooking 279, along with Froggy 98.3, which is a move-in of WESA from Charleroi.

Almost certainly the old 100.7 site, which was in Russelton. I visited there once. You could *barely* see the top of the US Steel (now USX) building from there. Not good for city coverage.

I think Mr. Ingram is the winner here.I don't know what the mailing address for that area was but it was along Mill Dam Road. Not far from Russelton, Indianola and Dorseyville.

That Was WNUF 100.7 the "Big Band Sound"[ Fun Spelled Backwards] Owned by Milton J Hammond and his greensheet Newspaper.

Ditto on that, Clarke. I think they kept the signal on that tower until the early 80s, when they moved it to right above Millvale, and then finally to WPGH-TV, where it shares space with WORD-FM.
