FM97 music

I have been listening to WLAN for a few years and this station has got to have the worst music variety of any Top 40/CHR station I have ever heard. The same songs seem to play every 60-120 minutes (and in some cases less than that). I know that is what Top 40 stations do, but it seems they are very selective on what they play. They are also very slow to add new music. It's annoying to hear Avril Lavigne-Girlfriend and Justin Timberlake-Summer Love every time I turn it on. I know they are major hit songs, but it seems that is all they play. This is all compared to what I hear on Z100 New York and Q102 Philly. If they could just fix the music, the station would be right there with Z100 and Q102. The DJ's are excellent and they have a killer signal.

That is the way fm 97 has always been, nothing has ever changed. If you dont like the same 10 or so songs they are rotating every hour, it will drive you nuts!!!!! The station does well in the Lancaster market, becuase the people here are very simple, they dont like much change around here, so WLAN thrives.

I beg to differ....in the mid-80's when I was music director our "A" list (the top 7 tunes) played every 3 1/2 hours.....still a lot if you are one of those people who listen constantly, but top 40 really isn't designed for long TSL. It was a lot better than WFEC in 1983...the #1 song every hour and only 40 tunes avaiable....I still get physically ill when I hear the Police "King of Pain"....:)

1982 in San Francisco, KFRC played their "A's" (we called 'em hots) every 70 minutes. And it kept an AM music station in the top 5 in an age of FM.
