I'd personally like to see FMExtra be brought into the mainstream of digital broadcasting. I've checked out the specs and the ease of installation of FM Extra. I feel with FMExtra, this could allow the smaller stations such as college and high school stations to make the switch to digital, without the exorbitant up front costs and licensing that Ibiquity insists on. Even the Grandfathered Class D's (10 watters) and the LPFM's could embrace FMExtra with its' multi-casting capabilities without having to break the bank. FMExtra does no harm with the adjacent channels as it uses the existing SCA spectrum that all FM stations have. $15,000 for FMExtra (with no further costs) as compared to $80,000 for IBOC (plus $25,000 for the license for the first stream and $5,000 for each stream thereafter) ..... well, only the well endowed operator can afford it, especially in this economy. I think that the FCC ought to revisit digital broadcasting and should take a second look on FMExtra. I'd personally like to see a multi-system approach with DAB with receivers capable of IBOC and FMExtra. Digital TV is a multi-system approach of TV broadcasting, why not radio? But, I'm sure it would never fly due to the corporate politics behind IBOC. But one could dream, can't they?
