FMQB.com: Severin's First Four Affiliates Named; None In Boston

FMQB.com is reporting today (October 18th) that the first four affiliates for Jay Severin's new nationally-syndciated talk-show have been announced (scroll down near the bottom of the page).

None is a Boston station. The four stations are: WPHT-1210 Philadelphia, WJFK-106.7 Washington, KRLD-1080 Dallas/Fort Worth, and KMNOX-1120 St. Louis.

Given speculation that WPHT's sister, WYSP-94.1 would become a talk station branded as "Free FM", and that such a station would also come to Boston and become Severin's new home here, that move is somewhat unusual.

Or when all is said and done, Severin premieres in Philly on WYSP and not WPHT??

That's the difference between "speculation" and fact. Anyone can speculate but that does not make said speculation truth.

Along those lines, if Infinity had said that Severin would be premiering on WYSP, it would be immediately "speculated" and most likely true that WYSP was toast and that "Free FM" was going there as well.

Without that information, however, we're allowed to "speculate" whether the information that Severin is going to WPHT is true.

Interesting!

You'd think that Infinity would want to put Jay on in Boston when he kicks off his syndie deal. Jay has a loyal fan base here in New England; it would only make sense to have him kick things off with Boston callers calling in to the show. I think it would help his show gather some momentum as listeners in his new markets may be hesitant to call at first..

Jay should do well in South Philly. There is a great affiliation for Severino's there.

Be careful. Your post may be moved because you are talking about Philadelphia, Washington, Dallas/Ft.Worth and St. Louis radio and not Boston radio on this Boston radio board. I am sure some poster will complain.

This is an interesting development. The way this is beginning to play out, this possible "Free-FM" concept is going to be more of a hot talk format rather than a traditional news-talker on FM the way WTKK is. With Infinity putting Severin on traditional AM talkers in Philly and Dallas rather than on an FM signal, it looks like the Free-FM thing may be more lifestyle oriented, rather than political. Infinity has an FM talker in Dallas (KLLI) but has chosen KRLD as the Severin affiliate. While WJFK in DC does have hot talk shows on it (Stern, Don & Mike) they have historically run politics-oriented programming on that station as well, so Severin would fit there.

It also looks like the Infinity replacement shows for Stern--David Lee Roth in the east and Adam Corrola in the west--are moving forward. This would not bode well for an FM talk station in Boston to challenge WRKO and WTKK--at least not a traditional one. If anything, this new station could be more of a hot talker targeting younger adults with mostly non-political programming. I wouldn't be surprised if this format eventually rolls out on either WBCN or WZLX, and Severin isn't on it. The fact that there is no Boston affiliate to announce may mean that Infinity may be hesitant to put the show on WBZ and are trying to come to terms with WTKK to run it.

Dont think so Mike Infinity didnt sign Severin to a syndication deal to allow him to remain on a non Infinity station in the only market where he has anaudience, the only market that has any idea who he is. I dont see him going back on tkk.

it's all speculation based on them registering some domain
names. and being gullible and naive, you just run with it.
they also own another 200 domain names that they don't currently
use. go look it up, joseph, since you are on the computer all day.
just because they registerd names doesn't mean they'll actually run
with it. they're probably blowing some smoke to see if there's a buzz
with buyers. the 'secrecy' is to create anticipation which creates
interest from buyers. listeners don't read trade websites
or radio messagboards. they just don't care as much as it shocks you.
