...I don't get the analogy...are you insinuating that those who offered advice are not gainfully employed in the radio industry?? I know I am...can't speak for the others. My original post about telling the PD how you'd bring more to the staff blah, blah, blah (I don't remember the exact quote) comes from my experience as an OM and PD. I've seen and heard stuff like that a lot...and it doesn't help the cause.

My mom always says - If the shoe fits blah blah blah. Either way it seemed appropriate for this discussion. I appreciate the critisism but I don't get why you wouldn't build yourself up at least a little bit. Would a PD really pass over a person who had enough confidence in their ability to tell them, "hey I'm good and would love to be part of your team" Worst case scenario the PD listens for 30 seconds then tosses the demo in the trash. Mr. Mic you have spent more time than that replying to my inane comments here. PD's I have worked with generally looked for a bit of an ego and I've seen the nice guys get screwed over. So why not be a bit bold and insist they listen to my stuff?

BTW Mr Mic - Since I don't know who you are or where you work, if you get a package from say - um Hurricane. Take a listen it might be worth it!
 
Self-confidence? A good thing. Telling a prospective
employer that you are better than him or his people?

"I'm good, and would love to be part of your team" is OK.

Saying or insinuating that their current jocks aren't doing as good a job with the music as they should be, and that you could do better, is not OK.

To a PD, criticizing anything that a station is doing means that you're criticizing him (or her). The PD is the one mainly and most directly responsible for the sound of the station and the performance of the jocks. You go negative about anything about a station to a PD, and you're effectively criticizing their work. Doing that doesn't bode well for your chances of joining their "team".

My initial comment wasn't meant to be taken rude to begin with, I am sorry if you took it that way! I wish everyone the best of luck when trying to make it during this down time in this industry.
 
Sour reading in some former staffers' posts. Posts read like Dorothy discovering the little man behind the curtain. There is no Oz. And what's the need to get so personal about it? Really.

I haven't heard this no-blab weekend thing but have heard both new Radio 92.9 programming and WFNX wins hands down on music. I won't comment on its DJs. 92.9 could benefit from deepening its classic alternative position. Clearly, they're hanging on FNX's own 90s heritage and banking on the steal with the obligatory (and dull) Dave Matthews, Live and Green Day.

What's that appeal - 30+, no-time-for-what's-new-and-unfamiliar?
 
So it looks like they are doing themed weekends, as this weekend was the "new music weekend" where every hour they would play 3 tracks from a band's new cd. Not a bad idea for these themed weekends as noted earlier it does keep people entertained for the wknd as a whole.
