What The......! i would have thought they might pick someone who had "actually" worked in this format before. it appears he's a "Lite Rock guy" from KC.

First off, his name is Dave - not Don. He's currently in KC - where he's from - but did afternoons at MIX in Chicago for quite some time.

When anyone thinks of "oldies" and 'Chicago" and "WLS" the first name that comes to mind is Dave Fogel. </sarcasm> He was probably the cheapest option available.

Neil:
Don’t bust somebody until you see the ratings. AC and Oldies stations sales people tend to work the same clients. I personally went from midday’s at an AC station to morning drive on a Country station. Did morning drive at that same station a top Thirty Market for six years before contract issues. They wanted to sell the station without a possible payout of a 3 years contract if the new owners would not honor the contract. I also had family health issues, so leaving was good for me. Morning Drive is all about topical content, and or humor, and news and traffic. Play a couple of songs to break up commercials! Now if you want to argue KC to Chicago jump is too big of a market jump maybe, but Fogel having been in the market before, might work.

IF Fogel lasts longer than Conan on The Tonight Show i will be amazed... going from an A/C to Country isn't That much of a stretch. i think going from a "lite-rock" to "Oldies" is something quite different. he must know the demographics, have knowledge of the music, a STYLE, a technique, ENERGY and a PASSION for the music. for someone who has never done it, it will be impossible to "Fake", and the audience will know it. BUT, if they simply want an "announcer" to speak every 20 minutes and read liner cards, a monkey could do it-but it won't get you ratings. it is hard to imagine this guy on the same station with a Dick Biondi! i don't know ANYONE outside of radio in Chicago who remembers the guy, and very few Inside of radio, so i can't imagine that being a factor. well don't take my word for it, listen to him mornings on kckc, personality? i don't hear it. i'm sure he's a swell guy, but doesn't deserve to be thrown into something he's not ready for.

You are right on Spot. My first choice of Fred Winston in the mornings, even though I know you didn't agree, would have been alot better than Fogel. Fred probably wanted to get paid and as you said do a little more than read liner cards every 20 minutes.

given THIS "illogical" decision (yes, i know its not a real word, but appropriate) Fred Winston would have been a MUCH better choice, although i can't believe there wasn't someone out there doing the format, with experience, outside of Lake Co. that would have been a better pick than Fogel.

in the end, LaCrosse's background is in soft A/C, so i think he was probably more comfortable picking someone from this format. i just don't think it "Fits" in this case. WLS-FM is in 11th place, if you look at the performance of Oldies in NY & LA it should be in the top- 5, THIS will NOT help.
