Fondest TV Memory?

Every Friday night during the 1980's CBS reighned at my house and my grandparent's house. My brotherwas born sick and i stayed with my grandparents . Wewould watch Duke's Of Hazzard, Dallas, and Falcon Crest . That was before cableand it was fun to watch tv asa family. Now my brother and granddad aregone now but wehave the memories .
 
I'd have to say being old enought to stay up to 9:00 PM on Mondays and watch Andy Griffth with the family was a big deal. It was one thing the whole family enjoyed. Also, Wagon Train with Ward Bond & Robert Horton was a big family favorite, but that was on earlier in the evening. Anyone have any idea why the original Wagon Train has not been released on DVD or seen in reruns?

Not on DVD (except for an isolated public domain episode or two) probably because not enough demand for it. Not in reruns for the same reason as 95% of 1950's film shows don't get any airtime: black-and-white and considered too dated to have any appeal.
 
I can't pick just one.

One would be the excitement and antipication of getting up on Saturday mornings for the cartoons as a kid, with a schedule planned out of when to change channels so that I could catch all of my favorite shows. It seems like 24-hour kids networks have taken a lot of the excitement out of TV watching...something that is available whenever you want it is far less valued.

Another fond memory (also as a kid) would be discovering the original "Star Trek" series for the first time -- it was reruns on KTNT channel 11 (now KSTW) Tacoma/Seattle, and it opened up new worlds of imagination.

Several years later, as a teenager, I have some very pleasant memories of most of my family gathering to watch "MASH" together on the little 13" color TV that I'd saved up to buy...

My favorite TV memory that doesn't actually involve watching TV would probably be in following the twists and turns in the story of KTVW/KCPQ channel 13 through news articles in the Tacoma News Tribune, as the station went through bankruptcy, became a public TV station, then returned to commercial operation in the aftermath of a bidding war to buy the station from the school district where I attended high school.
 
Off the top of my head, my earliest ones....

Sitting with my brother on a Saturday morning watching a test pattern, just waiting for those blessed cartoons. Volume turned up medium loud, and the pre sign-on beep tone awakens my sister. She storms from her room, doesn't acknowledge our presence, turns the volume down to silent, returns to her room and slams the door behind her.

Hearing my Dad laughing heartily at Johnny Carson as I was falling asleep.

The early-mid 70's CBS Saturday night schedule, enjoyed by the whole family.

The early-mid 70's ABC Friday night schedule, enjoyed by me and my brother at least.

Being scared sh*tless by "The EDDDDDGGGE.....of Night."

Being scared sh*tless by a show that hardly anybody remembers called "Ghost Story" (NBC, Fridays @ 9:00 Central, 1972)

My 80 year old Grandmother watching Adam-12 in the early 70's.

My 90 year old OTHER Grandmother watching "Diff'rent Strokes" in the late 70's. (She loved the show, but I wouldn't dare say what she called it...)

Watching Sonny & Cher with my now long deceased Sister.

My Mom's comprehensive opinion of Jack Albertson (as Ed "The Man" Brown) and Whitman Mayo (as Grady Wilson)...."Blechhh!! They make me sick!!"

Plenty for now... 8)

Mine is sort of the reverse of that. Accidentally waking my parents up as I was laughing at something on Saturday Night Live! ;D

You know that's an old memory. No one laughs at anything on SNL anymore! ::)
