Did you notice this on Allaccess.com today?

GEDDINGS & PHILLIPS BROADCASTING CORP. sells Classic Country-Gospel WKMT-A/KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC to DANIEL J. FONTANA's CRN COMMUNICATIONS, LLC for $950,000.

Danny's becoming a broadcast mogul right before our eyes!

I have never met Danny Fontana but enjoy his comments and sense of humor. I wish him luck with the station. It's hard to turn a profit with a small market AM these days.

I hope Danny does well, we just put him on here in Asheville and he's
being received favorably.

Gee, does that mean Angel might have another radio job?

It's not exactly a small-market AM, or at least it won't be soon...they have a CP to go to 10kW directional, aimed at Charlotte...

Wow that's interesting, thanks for the information.

Not to be a wet blanket if they are going after WBT it will take a lot of time and a lot of money to compete with a heritage station like WBT. If they can get along without spectacular ratings for a long time then the station might have a chance. After many years 610 WFNZ is finally starting to make some progress.

While I enjoy WBT I hope WKMT does well. It's always good to have a choice. For the size of the market Charlotte has a small number of good AM stations.

I worked with Danny in two capacities. I produced the morning show at WBT when Jon Robinson hosted and Danny did his investment/business report. Then on Fridays, I produced Carolina Chronicle at WFAE which featured his market wrap. I have a feeling a station could go a very long time without profit and still have operating funds with Danny in charge.

He also has an amazing knowledge of wines. When I was an unsophisticated youth, he told me about letting wines "breathe". This was at a time when I preferred screw caps because a corkscrew is hard to remove with a pocket knife.

The station is not far from where I live. Bldg is essentially cinder-block construction painted white. Truly an early am'er nostalgic look. That its located in a small valley makes you wonder how that tower can transmit over the nearby trees etc. Danny is also going for a taller stick for that 10k. And he's adament about not competeing with 99.3. Nice write-up in the CLT Obser.
