Food Network fires Paula Deen

For something totally irrealaved and that happen 20 years ago. I wonder why Paula's Attorney didn't make an objection to the question she foolishely answered in a Deposition. I wonder what would happen if she gave the Eric Holder response of "I Don't Know"?

I will be boycotting Food Network and contacting Food Network corporate office via recorded phone call and putting that on my YouTube channel. TN is a one party consent state when it comes to tape recording, and having no disposable assets in TX makes me Execution Proof if they sue me.

This story is weird. I would agree that some of Deen's reported comments were in poor taste, but I'm not understanding the grounds of the lawsuit or non-renewal.

Well, let's not shed too many tears for Paula Deen. CBS estimates her annual income at more than $14 million. So if she never earns another penny, she'll still be quite well off. Now I bet she wishes she had settled this minor lawsuit out of court.

Of course, being bright was not part of her career success. She cooks very fattening foods, never caring about calories or health. Even though in real life, she recently lost quite a bit of weight, and disclosed she has diabetes. Clearly she's not eating her own cooking anymore. She makes sure she always peppers her speech with the phrase "Y'all" even when it isn't needed. I have the feeling if she gave a recipe and failed to say "Y'all" several times, the director would yell "Cut!" and re-do the segment.

I disagree with firing someone for something they did many years ago. The Food Network really should have suspended her but not terminate her.

If she were suspended instead, she probably would have focused more on the lawsuit.

Seems to be a vengeance play for commenting that the First Lady was <paraphrased> scarfing the food down. Not a slap against the First Lady but a testimonial to the good, healthy food if the First Lady ate it right up.

Guess it all depends on where one's head is.

I think Food Network screwed up on this controversy. She was not fired. They decided not to offer her a new contract. Her current deal ends this week. (I think June 30) All they had to do was wait a week or so to let things calm down then issue a statement saying they couldn't reach agreement on a new deal...or say Deen had decided to pursue other opportunities... Etc. Yes, it would all be BS, but it would have let both sides save face. Now the Food Network is facing a needless backlash. If that hurts ratings they are going to regret their actions quite a bit in the next few years.

I don't know much about Paula Deen's background or the merits of this lawsuit. I don't really care if she uttered "the n word" years ago. I do think we are losing our freedom of speech bit by bit when events like this happen.

I like Paula Deen alot and I hope this is not the end of her career. Who would hire her? Discovery Networks? Discovery Networks hasn't had a cooking show since the short lived cooking show hosted by Cake Boss's Buddy Valastro. Do they have food oriented shows on their Destination American Network? Hallmark Channel for their "Home Block"? LiveWell? I hope she doesn't end up on LiveWell. We don't have LiveWell in Hartford, CT. ABC for when they cancel GH? The Chew and Paula Deen back to back in the afternoon?

And it was just announced today that QVC will not be selling anymore of her products.

Paula Deen just announced she will be appearing on The Today Show on Wesnesday.

Wasn't Dean suppose to have appeared on 'Today' last week and then cancelled at the last minute or was that some one else?

Does she "OWN" most of her brand? I would think Food TV (Scripps/Tribune) owns a big part of it. I wonder what she'll be able to do. I know they did not renew her contract but, The Dog whisper is not allowed to use that name, even tho they did not renew his show. so I would assume they could control her some what.

Not if she files for Chapter 7 and moves to Texas.

How would that prevent them from control?? Wouldn't she have to re brand herself? I would guess Scripps owns her regardless.

It could stay a judgement. Texas they can't garnish wages unless it's child support, taxes, alimony, student loan debts, they can only levy bank accounts.

Then again, she could mention having a company trademark her name would be violation of law or public policy as a defense to breach of contract.
The bankruptcy would protect her assets in the interim.

I haven't seen the contract, but somewhere in there has to be a release of the parties. Since the contract is not going to be renewed, I am sure there is a end date to the contract. Courts frown upon contracts that are open ended, vague, and violate or have the potential to violate law or public policy.

I am sure Paula Deen (without any other implied knowledge of the contract) is free to market her own Paula Deen cooking line after July 1st.

I need to study the SCOTUS decision on the Patent case.

If she decides to syndicate her show to broadcast television it will be more than welcome on the station I work r.

I seem to remember someone once saying, "But that was 23 years ago!". How did he fare?
